This is where coyotes were digging into a mound for something. Probably mice or perhaps a hibernating chipmunk. Somethin to pay attention to next time I put in a set.

That's a big one.

I've been seeing smaller holes like this that I'm not sure what explains them:

AJE those are typically the kind I see here too. Or a narrow trough through deep snow

In the photo above there were several coyotes working it. Haven't seen a track in a week and all of a sudden last night they were everywhere on this property. Even managed to pick this nice male up.

Good job. It sometimes takes them a while to come back through.

I’d bed a trap there for sure. No need to add anything but a trap

Check the tracks, as a lot of those small digs are squirrels and a coyote comes to investigate but did not do the digging. Their foot strokes are pretty long if they dig for something. .............. the mike

Was the weather cold/freezing when they were digging into pile? When no return, was the weather warmer and ground thawing? Now did the weather turn cold/freezing again?
I see bait piles getting hit with freeze up or heavy snow cover and no interest with warmer temps. Just saying...

Yesterday morning was around 20 degrees. This has been one of the mildest winters I can ever recall. This morning was 12 degrees and picked up another male about 50 yards from the one I caught yesterday. Best part today was my grandson was with me.
