I like the idea of using 1/8 in cable for exposed cat sets on a 2 or 3 lb jc Connor drag. In my mind it’d work great for cats and fox and keep weight down on those sets that are a ways from the truck. Anyone have any input on this?

If you're in good entanglement area for the drags sure. You will have a lot of kinked cable thoigh. If you get 7x19 they'll hold up better to the kinking.

Open ground, stick with the chain.

Even cats get that cable all kinked up on the first catch.

Climbing into rimrock with a five gallon bucket that weighs 25 pounds builds character

What size chain could I use to make the lightest set out of chain that’d be better than replacing kinked cables out in the field, what would you guys recommend on that?

Think MTP also has chain and drag all set up with shock spring and all swivels as well.

I use 12 ft of number 3 chain. I wanted the extra weight to help keep the drag on the ground. The worlds best cat set is apt to catch a dang coyote first. Drags will go airborne and if its a fast and strong critter it could be 20 feet before it bounces again.

That all sounds really good thanks guys I’ll definitely see what I can find that’s light and fast but hopefully won’t be to big of a pain in the rear.

To add weight I like to wire a rock to the chain about halfway to the drag, one that weighs 15 or 20 pounds. I e even used a rock like that at the end of the chain with no actual drag.

Like chain, adds to the weight and don't get tangled and frayed like cable.

I would use chain cable is ganna cost you a long walk or 5 It does not take much after its kinked or twisted to fail
Usualy when you dont want it to either

Try to avoid the cheaper foreign Chinese chain that some places still sale its as bad as useless as the people who think they are cats or dogs.

Chased down coyotes in the sheep with that stuff because i needed more equipment at the time
I was perdy broke then and its a risk i should of avoided and in that country you caught her once and she was there or you had a long hot summer

100 or do bucks woulda saved me a very long hot summer

Usually the hd#2 chain is good If you got lions weld the j hooks just in case

Sometimes things still happen i just try to avoid those days
