There are a lot of cool old military guns with a scope being listed as a sniper rifle then a big asking price. Most of the time when there are the right pictures I can tell if the scope is actually sold for civilian use. Sometimes the mount looks military but it is hard to tell. So whats up with "sniper rifle" designations? Just hype to turn a better profit or real military surplus special duty firearms? How can you tell?

My guess, if it’s real, would be the packaged has been married up, gun, sight and specified ammo.

Or

Could just be a marketing ploy

Or

Could be another attempt to label a firearm for a future push to ban.

Its too wide a designation as you can put a scope on almost any gun and call it a sniper rifle.

Because real ones are worth 10X the cost of regular run military guns and almost every collector of military arms wants one, not just collectors but just gun guys

By the way that one is my dads and not for sale, but if it was could probably get a decent new car for what it’s worth

keep in mind in Vietnam often a Sniper rifle was a civilian M70 or M700 with a civilian optic

but on arms list , it is people trying to market their poop for more than it is worth.

if you are going to get into actual Sniper rifles $$$$ and you better do your home work and know exactly what your looking for.

the sniper classic match has also added cost to actual snipers as you can only play with an actual period correct gun and optic , it can be a convert to sniper just has to be correct

people want to sell to some guy who plays a video game and it looks kinda right and has the name , they may or may not shoot it

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

My gramma's brother Pete brought home a rifle from WWII. A K98 with a 2 power scope that has a swastika on it. My cousin was gifted it when we were about 16. He has killed several deer and elk with it. Seen him win a couple local turkey shoots with it too. Been a long time since he has even shot it. About 45 years ago at one of those turkey shoots to raise money for the volunteer ambulance somebody offered him a big chunk of money. Its the real deal and pretty cool. We never knew it had value beyond a family heirloom.

You don't see rifles like that for sale nitelife. Very nice

One rifle used for not as long of shots was the M14 in 7.62 (3.08). It had a 20 round magazine underneath. Not quit something you would want to carry everyday.

There is a Marine Chuck Mawhanney who used an M14. Having sat with a twight light scope and dropped something like 15 or 16 NVA in 30 seconds at a river at night.

Normally he used an M40 bolt action.

When we trained with the M 14 mine shot terrible ,We had to keep the same rifle all the way through do believe a smooth bore slug gun was more accurate
