Since today is another postal holiday it is a good reminder that the 3rd rate increase in a year will go in to effect on January 22. Forever stamps will go to 63 cents from 60 cents. You can stock up on the 60 cent stamps online from the Postal Service yet this week.

I had to ship a package with UPS
Because it was over $70.00 to ship it USPS

I used to ship the same package mail for under $30.00 in 2012

I think 63¢ is a great deal to send a letter anywhere in this country.

My wife is stranded in Texas with the kids from covid and now pneumonia, Had to overnight her her diabetes drugs.... 2#, parcel express was 62 bucks.
Even the postal lady was shocked, Told her "I thought the post office wasn't making enough money."...

I accidently shipped some fur the other day 40 miles by USPS from Anchorage to Wasilla. It was $7 a pound. I'm not doing that again. You could drive it there cheaper. Freight rate by snow machine or river boat here is around 30 cents a pound. I can charter a Maul for maybe $350 and load it with around $400 pounds of freight. Around a buck a pound. I used to be able to mail (usps) around 70 lb here for around $10 from town 30 years ago. About 15 cents a pound.

This is making no business sense.

I mean really, I can ship myself to the lower forty eight for about a buck a pound.

I rather pay 50 cents. Next year what's it going be 75 cents.

In 2021 my wife mailed our X-Mas packages to the Grandkids via USPS. We did it 3 day mail and spent over 100 dollars. It arrived 3 months late and the USPS was a JOKE until we wanted to have the insurance pay it out then suddenly they found the package in Dayton Ohio and sent it on to Wisconsin and STILL refused to refund the 3 day shipping!!! Now I use Fed Ex for anything important!!!

Priority Mail no longer has an guarantee of on time delivery. I have a package coming from out west .... within Wisconsin it traveled from Milwaukee to Oshkosh, Oshkosh to Green Bay, Green Bay to De Pere, De Pere to Manitowoc, Manitowoc to Oshkosh, Oshkosh to Green Bay again, Green Bay to De Pere, before being sent out for local delivery.... Extra two days sitting in postal offices going in circles around the state. POSTAL EFFICIENCY

Scott, back in 1998 i could ship 24 pigeons to California for $34.90. It's now $343.95, over 10 times as much.

Lawyer calls it hasn't arrived, check the tracking and it had gone to Baton Rouge, LA....Address was correct and clearly visible, it's going within state, How is this possible?, lol

It finally showed up, but seriously?

I ship quite a few packages and there was a huge spike in "lost" packages over the holidays. Lost as in gone, no tracking updates and never delivered.

The problem with switching to a private company is that they do not want the extremely remote routes.

Did I not post the cost of private sector shipping to this remote area? Between $1 to 30 cents a pound by, boat, snow machine, or small aircraft. Plenty people do it, and for far less than the usps. Didn't used to be this way. Of course, it is not biweekly delivery.

The weird part is these private guys can beat the usps and they also pay taxes?

Still have most of a roll of $.45 forever stamps to use up! LOL
