I prefer chain, but havent converted everything over yet. When I use cable I put the top of the loop underground in inch or two before setting the anchor. Generally works for me and keeps the cable underground

One year with cable and I had enough. Chain attaches with a S hook that has to be welded shut or it will open up while driving in and pulling out. If you want to not have pull the anchor and just cut and run when pulling traps then cable put if not I just like chain better for several reasons
I do as yessir does

I don’t use S hooks to attach the bullet to the chain. I use 5/8 lock washers. Pry them apart, attach, then weld them closed I am fixing to make some more. I could remember I had read another way to attach them that I thought sounded good but couldn't remember how it was done. Thanks for posting

I use a short piece of cable and the remainder is chain...it stays buried well below the surface and no longer interferes with bedding. That was my solution.
If someone has done better than you, you settled for less but, it's not their fault.

I attach with quick links and always anchor to the side of the bed and would stretch and lay it down in the bottom of the bed. Got all the 550’s converted to chain and still do the same thing. Everything just gets pulled to the bed and the trap goes over it. This way sorta preserves my trap bed for the remake. this with cable------- ground too hard to retrieve anchors---- have to pre drill a hole for wolf fangs--- they aint coming back out nicely

Chain all the way. And, I rarely use my puller anymore. I just use my drill and auger to get them out. Yep!! If I have solid clay I’ll find a cable and have no plans on pulling it, lol.

I used to use cable then at some point I bought some with chain from MTP. I will never go back to cable. I would get the heavy duty S hooks from MTP and weld them shut. Or just buy them they are priced pretty reasonably compared to what you would have into them anyway. Get yourself a steak puller with a grab hook on it and they are actually pretty easy to retrieve most times. My husband made me a stake puller it’s a steel fence post with a small loop of chain and heavy duty S hook and I can move it up or down the post as needed for leverage. All you guys must have welding equipment tho!!!

I make my wolf fang or super stake earth anchors using 12" of 1/8 stainless cable and 6" of #3 chain which eliminates the issues of cable sticking up in the trap bed. Attaches to trap chain with a quick linkor a split ring. No welding required.
