Can these big ol buggers be updated to dogless? What about #3/#4 DLS? I absolutely know they are not essential for beaver trapping. But they seem a lot easier to set, imo anyway. I don’t have anything into them, monetarily speaking, so that’s not an issue. I just want to make setting a little easier.

If you think about it you could make just about any trap dogless if you build a pan that will keep the jaws open and let it fire properly.

I know it’s not dogless but I like the paws I trip pan system on my #14 jumps and I have seen it installed on double long spring 3s and 4s. It makes a huge difference.

The Devil made me do it the first time. The second time I done it on my own.

I have the PIT pans on some 14 jumps also and they really fix the floppy pan issue.

I thought the original pans had to be a bit sloppy to allow the spring to shoot up from underneath at an angle?

I bought a bunch of no.4 jumps a while back that came with PIT pans and they make a world of difference

As I recall reading somewhere, large jumps were the premier Beaver trap back in the day.

Yes. The old Morse O'Berto triggerless kits were common for just that very thing in the 50's and 60's. I still have some of the 200's and 300's somewhere in the fur shed........ essentially, with this kit, you removed the stock cross, pan, and dog, and the kit bolted on in place of the cross, and a new dogless, tensioned pan was attached to the bolted on cross. You can probably Google pictures for a better idea than my poor description....... smile

Thanks folks! Appreciate the feedback. I’m going to look into that PIT pan system. That’s the same one that F&T sell’s correct?

I don't see the same number on their website as the ones I used. I got mine directly from Ed Medvetz in PA. I don't know if this phone number is still good. 724/479-9442 Mine were PIT BL4.
