I just found 14 #3 double long spring victor blake and lamb traps, all with drags on Craigslist. I offered them $250. Is this a good deal. I don’t have any experience with the long spring traps. Thx for he help guys.

That’s plenty to give.
Can buy them all day at conventions for less than that.

#3 double long sprigs sell for $8 to $10 at convention, yes there will be some that are more. This price I listed is without drags. So 14 #3 DLS X $10 = $140

Yep I’d offer em $150 or so. Nothing special about those. They’re good user traps but not worth $250, go to a convention ad you can buy em all day for $10 a piece or so

There was a fur sale in Idaho this weekend, and there are conventions in each state every year. Depending on how far you’re willing to drive Montana, Idaho and Nevada have good ones. Nevada’s will be in Lamoille this year, you might try making it to that one

Beside the experience and fun it would be cheaper to pay more for the used traps if you add in time gas and the ability to get them now to use.

Yes, but at those fur sales and conventions you get access to vast amounts of invaluable knowledge from guys who are catching hundreds or even thousands of critters year after year. You can buy em a beer and pick their brains about trapping, fur handling, bait making, trap tuning, etc. for hours on end and it’ll shorten the learning curve by years. It’s not the good deals on equipment that makes it worth it, it’s the relationships you’ll build and hundreds of years of collective knowledge you can soak in. I’ve been to several in Montana and I left every one of them a better trapper than I was when I got there.

I went to the one that was here last year or the year before. Turned around and left asap. The first bait maker thar shuved their bait under my nose and I couldn't smell a thing sent warning bells to my brain. That tea I had got on the way was not Watered down after all I just couldn't taste it. Yep that's how I found out I had covid and I got away from the people there as fast as I could. Other than not being able to smell or tast I felt fine and had no clue .

I prefer more of a saber-tooth style drag than those

8-10 apiece for Victor or Blake and Lamb 3s, I prefer Blake and Lamb but have plenty of Victors and they work just as good. So figure what the drags are worth. A lot of that looks like twin link chain and I wouldn't run that on land sets for coyotes or where you might catch a coyote or something larger. Not my style of drag, I like something more aggressive but if they suit you they are worth a few bucks apiece.

You could sell those drags for 10 each too. If you buy them replace that chain. You ever seen a dog on that kind of chain and it did not fail in relatively short time? those long springs work in places where its hard to dig a bed. Like cat sets where you end up using the duff from under a cedar tree cause there just aint any dirt in that rock patch but a set needs to be made there. Or you lay the trap on the ground and the snow coming in cover's it up. Exposed trap sets those long springs dont wobble much. They dont freeze down like a coil spring either. A stick under the loose jaw is really all you need.

Nothing wrong with making the guy an offer of less money either. Its not walmart. You can haggle.
