This set was put in 1/10 had a camera on it till this past Saturday that showed one coyote going pass in that time. Caught a coyote in another set about 300 feet away direction coyote was going that same nite. Same one who knows. This set has had 2" plus of rain since it was put in. I used a pipe to hold bait [top dog] bed the trap in Peet moss and covered with it, gave it a shot of red fox pee. Three days ago gave it a shot of red fox pee. This mud dog was waiting this morning.

46 days is my longest set trap to catch a coyote. MUCH longer is common on sheep in Texas and Montana. People under estimate the power of a good lure

I had a set one time lured with Jamesons Fox Cream, it sat for 2 weeks got 8 inches of snow on it and caught a coyote on day 30 with out reluring, rebedding, or even removing the dry snow (I could tell where it was exactly and didn't want to create a huge disturbance to possibly scare the coyotes).

I backtracked him and he came from a good 60 yards away on a string basically to that lure that was buried in the snow and 30 days old.

Had one go a little over a little over 80 days without reluring. Step down dirt hole in a remake. It was under water and frozen in a good part of the time or else it probably would have been sooner. It was for a rancher who wanted the coyotes thinned out before calving and he was checking them for me when he fed. It was on my own stuff.

Some years ago I made some sets for red fox It was colder than normal for the time of year late Dec and the ground was froze several inches deep I thought it would warm up in a few days and I wanted to have my traps set when the warm up got here . I used a mason.s hammer and a large chisel to make some dirt hole sets I bedded them as best as I could and covered them with dry dirt and buckwheat hulls .I checked them for about 7 days without catching anything Then we had a pouring rain That morning it was still raining pretty hard as I checked traps .I was mostly just making sure I did not have anything in my sets One set I noticed the dirt hole was full of water and some of the covering was flushed out of the dirt hole and trap bed .I was not dealing with any remakes that day and kept checking . The next morning that set held a red fox Many times I have made sets and did not re lure or re cover the trap And still caught fox and coyote in those so call stale sets .

Had a bear roll the log i was using as a backstop and pull out the sheep wool last night without setting the trap off. It was raining so I just stuffed the sheep's wool back into the hole and moved the log back where it was. I didnt put anymore bait on the wool do you think I should?

Around my area it isn’t uncommon to go 2 to 3 weeks until a hook up then maybe 3 in a row

I've been no where near that patient.
I gotta learn to leave em be and let em work.
Thanks for this post smile

Here sometimes 2 weeks is minimum. Not to often I have caught a coyote the first night or two. Some areas you really need to be patient.

Funny this came about as today I just hooked a coyote and the trap was put in october 28th. Almost 3 months just sitting, waiting. No I never relured it. Longest I've ever went is 3 months and a week. In this country ya gotta be in it for the long haul!
