Do y'all ground worms , what's your favorite bedding material? I told all my worms they were grounded, but they didn't listen and snuck out.

The best worms I had was when they were in my compost pile outside. In fall I would bring some in had two totes. I just used commercial buss bedding. Fed worms canned pumpkin or squash. I finally quit keeping them over winter just didn't use them enough. My wife preferred night crawlers over the red worm in summer anyway. So I don't even do compost pile anymore.

Peat moss, takes a while to soak up enough water to be usable, but works great.

Shredded newspaper works good too if you have a way of shredding it easily. Cheaper too. I have filled buckets with newspaper and water to soak overnight. A paint mixer and drill shreds it nice. Dump on an old window screen to drain excess water. News paper is getting harder to find in quantity. I do 2 buckets at a time. We pick night crawlers from May to August, the best fishing on our lake is the same time.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

Find a small straw bale or get straw from harvested wheat. Bust it up and run lawn mower over it and use a bagger on mower. Then and type of manure, coffee grounds and any scrap of fruit. Old apples all chopped up work great. Work all this into the ground in a 5 to 6 foot area etc.. Leave mixture loose and cover with some old rugs or blanket. Wet id down and keep it wet. Also do it in a spot with shade about 85% of the time. You keep feeding them with scraps old fruit, vegies etc. Start our herd there and you will have red worms or night crawlers for years to come.
