Lightweight, no worries about it starting. I’ve had one for 10 years but the company is out of business now. Perfect for my use for fireplace wood. More power than expected. Probably wear it out if you have wood heat.

Yeah I split about 5 cords per year and am used to an 18 ton splitter. Looking for something a bit handier to move and use.

5 cord? Buy me a plane ticket for when the salmon are running and I will even pile it after I split it. I am handy to move and use like a rented mule.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Careful as make it too easy to move and work you may lose it regular.

I had one for awhile, can't remember the model but it had good reviews. They'll split better than you'd think, as long as you can read the grain and work from the sides in.
Easy wood is no problem.
Not the fastest, but it don't get tired either...lol

I'm splitting all birch. Biggest diameter is probably 14 inches or so

there was a company out of Rockford ILL that did traditional log splitters but used a 3HP eclectic motor to turn the love-joy connector and hydraulic pump.

the would sell you it with the 3hp electric and if you didn't like it after 90 days they would put the 6hp gas engine on and take back your eclectic

quite but you had to be right next to power and 240 at that.

the company rep stated it bogged down less than the 6.5hp gas engine and just kept trucking at 20 ton

so if you only split in your wood shed , and kept your splitter just inside the door with a 20 foot cable you were great

if you split all your wood in the garage on rainy days could be good

I decided against it and did gas , and a different brand because while I am not that far from ILL I went with a dealer in town that sold DHT

They would probably work on 14” birch if not too long. 14”, 200 year old spruce would be another story.

That is all? OK, I rescind my previous offer. If 14 inch Birch is the biggest stuff to split, I will send my Mother instead. smile

Frozen birch splits like a dream.

I doubt that our white spruce ever make it to 200 years without falling and rotting.

Now.....black spruce and tamarack probably get to 200 years old and maybe even 2 inches in diameter.

I'm not good at posting links to pages so you will have to search this. The Amish guy down the road from us has 2 of these and the run all day long (he sells firewood for a living. If I were to buy a spliter this is what I would get.

All birch needs to be split. Even the small stuff doesn’t dry down right if it’s not split. If split, birch is outstanding fireplace wood. No kindling needed. Wood burns the same BTU per dry pound regardless of species.
