I don’t know what buckthorn is but it doesn’t sound fun. I tend to use more forgiving brush, like sagebrush and willow

Alder buckthorn?
It makes the best charcoal for black powder that you can get.

Grey Fox love buck thorne for habitat in which to escape from the cayutes.
They thrive on the fruit (berries) for food in the fall.
We are overgrown with buck thorne here in Jefferson County in Northern NY and we are over run with grey fox.

I honestly can this is the first time I’ve ever heard someone say something good about buckthorn. Oh I hate buckthorn, trust me. It's destroying Wi forests. One other use for it that I've seen is it makes great walking sticks.

We are overgrown with buck thorne here in Jefferson County in Northern NY and we are over run with grey fox. In Wisconsin we have Buckthorn that is classified as European, also called Carolina, it is not good for wildlife or forests. It's allelopathic and produces compounds that prevent anything other than itself from growing- including beneficial plants. The fruit berries are a laxative to birds and other wildlife, spreading at a rapid rate through this dispersal, the leaf browse has no nutrional value- big time bad news.

If you can find sections straight enough, buckthorn wood is very good for wood bows. Oftentimes they need spliced at the handle, far easier to get straight billets (40 inch pieces) versus a 65 inch plus piece.

I don't dispute the bad news part but I have noticed that deer will browse the smaller shoots occasionally.

It's getting so much worse- rapidly each year- I often seriously wonder what's going to happen with Wisconsin's forests.
