Do trucks still have starter relay switches. Had one go out in the 70s. That was probably a solenoid on the fender.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

They still have starter relays, usually located in the underhood junction block (fuse box). On the GM's I worked on, you could often swap the starter and AC relay to see if that was the bad part.

Yup, son had the same random problem a few months ago. Did it a couple of times. He had the battery checked, they told him all good, voltage was good. Did it a few more times over a month or so while he replaced alternator, looked for shorts, etc. Always started and run until the random next time. Finally, have a buddy run an old fashioned battery stress test ... Result, one dead cell in the battery. Replaced the oem battery, hasn't had a problem since.

Tap the starter with a hammer while cranking. If you can do this by yourself please make a video…it will be amazing. I can do that while chewing gum.

had a similar issue with my wife's expedition
it would loose enough current and the starter would click then the relay under the dash started clicking until the batter cable was pulled , could pull the ground , put it back on and start most of the time it was a bad battery that showed it's self a few months later
cheap battery stress test , turn on headlights set timer 10-15 minutes ,then turn key if she won't start battery is bad.

My starter went out a few weeks ago, it would turn over like a low battery but the battery was fine.

Mine does the same thing. Put it in neutral and it starts. my van used to be like that , worn out neutral/Park safety switch in park , but neutral was fine

Neutral safety switch will do that.

It's the starter. Replace it before it leaves you sitting somewhere you don't want to be. If you made it over 100k without replacement, you are a lucky man.
