I’m looking for steel screen to make some pan covers for my Montanas. Where to buy, and what grade? I like what I’m using now from Graham but need the option to buy local and an easy way to cut it. Any experience with this?

I buy it from Lowe’s in rolls for about $32.00. I leave it in the packaging and cut it the width I need with a hack saw. Then I cut each pan cover from the small roll with a paper cutter. It helps me crank them out fast and keeps the cuts strait. Hope that all makes sense.

May God bless you and yours

Are you sure what you buy from Lowes is steel and not aluminum? I haven't been able to find steel screen in my local Lowes, just aluminum.

You want aluminum, not steel. Steel is stiff, aluminum has more bend to it and will hold inside the jaws better. Also aluminum oxidizes while steel rusts, so take that into consideration too if you plant on making them up in large amounts and storing them. The slightest bit of moisture over a few months will lead to rusty pan covers. Make sure it’s aluminum, I switched over to waxed paper and it works better for me and it’s wayyy cheaper and less work

I go to a hardware store that does screen/glass replacement and get all the scrap I can handle for free.

I bought stainless screen form Utah Biodiesel Supply for smoking sea salt. I have to burn it off and then wash in Dawn but I could get any size opening I wanted.
Amazon also has some stainless screen I used.
