Save the land, resist against developers!!!
We don't need more houses.
I've lost too much trapping land to new housing developments.

I've used several throughout my life but 2 weekends ago I left my axe at my cousins and auntys house. Well i could only find Husky axe under $60. I used it once and liked it. I was at another cousins house the last few days. I started using his dad's axe and was very impressed with it. It was a husky as well. I told them I just bought one and barely used it yet but I'm glad I bought the same axe

I bought this original Chopper 1 for $5.00 today. They started making them in 1977. I bought a splitting maul with it for $5.00 too. I bought 2 old axes yesterday for $5.00 each also. There's some axes for sale farther out for $6.00 each that are tempting me to make a driver. I seldom see axes for this cheap. I'm starting to have a pretty good collection of axes, hatchets and cleavers.

There are mixed reviews on how well the Chopper 1 splits. Sadly, I don't have a fireplace or wood stove, but I think I'll cut a tree down just to try it out on.

Exactly. Before I bought my hydraulic splitter, I got two Monster Mauls. One is the original and the other is the Lady Monster Maul which is much lighter than the original.

Elm is stringy wood. The best time to split elm by hand is when the temp is below zero. But, who in their right mind wants to be out in below zero weather splitting wood?

My new car has a button for pretty much everything. Even has one that says rear wiper. Still too afraid to try that one.

I switched from an axe to a splitting maul, the head on it same size and shape as the splitting wedges, of which I have and use two. If it is a wood that splits easy, almost as fast to do a small lot as it is to fire up a wood splitter. Latter works best on forks.

Elm isn't so bad if it is dry or better yet, was dead. If green, don't even bother trying.

I agree with Hobbie. I'm 78 and have been splitting fire wood since I was a kid. Nowadays, due to a shoulder problem, I'm using hydraulics. In the past I had a 6 lb. and an 8 lb. splitting maul and I always liked the 6 lb better because I could swing it much faster.

I used to use a Gamble's double bit that was my great grandpa's, now I use an 8lb maul with a 36" handle for the majority of my splitting. I use my Cold Steel 27" Trail Boss axe to cut kindling and smaller rounds, I used the same one for 4 years and just bought a new one but the old one is still used more.

Probably preaching to the choir but let your rounds set and check up for 4 to 6 months and unless it is gum or madrona it splits a whole lot easier. With gym just let the bugs get it Madrona split as soon as you cut it.. Used to split 10 cords a year with an 8 lb maul
