Any of you folks ever had to deal with a locked up or otherwise damaged hard drive? I have been dealing with this for a couple months now and need to get something done at this point. I have had several IT/PC individuals look at it but they were not successful at restoring the system or recoverying any data.

What research I have done it seems all the companies are in California.I would really like to find an individual or company more local. I am not very keen on the idea of shipping our data across the country.

Your are right Brian. I saw the IT guy that he took his PC too on Tucker a couple nights ago. He said he does data recovery. Will have to try to contact him and see if he can help.

Google it. There are companies who specialize in this. I sent a hard drive off in the early 90s for data recovery.

Tried to contact the fella, he is closed currently until further notice. Guess he is being sued by the Feds for giving the Hunter info to the press.

I have looked into a few. California and India seems to be the bulk of the companies location. They give you an adjustable rate which is a bit ridiculous. $400 to $2000. You basically pay what they feel like charging you it seems.

Basically you need a forensic data recovery person. If the hard drive wont spin up or the data is corrupted, they might have to physically open the HDD to get the data.

Yes I am aware of that fact. I would like to find a more local company or individual for services.

I used a local company (BlueWire Cyber & Collectibles) to replace my computer hard drive a couple of years ago. The technicion installed a new hard drive and kept the old one. He said he would try to recover files from the old hard drive. After about a week he called an said that he had recovered most of the files from the old hard drive. I now have files going back over twenty years ago.
