The difference is the Cree had the system perfected

Furbuyer used to tell me the best put up beaver skins by far came off the reservation and the women did the put up.

When you had to pac out XX amount of hides that weight does add up big time on the portages.
No wonder the fur presses could compact so many hides in a bundle when they were all frost scrapped.
