That's the way I do it. The back legs on same side as tail. Leaves nice inspection window.

Nice clear leather on yours Boco. A lot of ours have what I call freckles on the leather side. No effect on the fur quality.... even though the Canadian auctions would often grade them as damaged from "tick bites". Used to drive me nuts.

I get those freckles on the few I've caught here in WI also. Always wondered what they were from. Sometimes don't notice them until the hide dries some.

Beaverpeeler know you are a vet peeler, and probably already do this at times, but for others try pinning your otter tails with 5/8" steel push pins. Quicker and saves on the boards. Just a few nails to get basic tail and body length and the rest push pins.
And yes neat work for sure.
