Hey all... just looking for some info . Has anyone used a small wood stove in a small tent that only has about a 2.5 to 3 inch stove pipe? I wanna make a small stove from a 20# propane tank using a small dia chimney. I saw in some webb sites and have seen some magazine articles on a small stove in some tents with that pipe size. Wondering if it catches enough draft so when you open the door to put wood in the smoke won't roll back? Thanks !

plenty of people use small wood stoves in small shelters with 3" pipe..no issues.

The tent stoves that use 3" pipes are pretty small. Usually used in floorless tipi type shelters for a quick warm up. They don't hold a fire long at all.

I built one from a 16-inch piece of heavy pipe and has a 2.5 inch stove pipe. It will heat up a 16x16 in a hurry in sub below temps. This is at a line shack we don't use much but at times it is a great place to warmup and spend the day or night. [Linked Image]

you will be constantly adding wood to such a small stove. this was cheap and works good. made from a steel drum.

Danny that design is pretty common here and personally I did 3 entire winters in a wall tent w one, thru some brutal cold snaps too. Flat top is great. I’ve used stoves w 3” pipe and as said once it draws its fine, and ok for a small space

Gotcha. I may be looking for a 12x14 or 12x16. Something for me and some of the kiddos for extended winter camping trapping trips

Hey... thanks for the comments all. I made this stove back in 2004 from an old water pressure tank for my wall tents. Used it every fall at elk camp. Since 2015 I have used it every winter as my main heat source for my caBIN. Still going strong. 4" pipe for chimney. Sometimes smoke rolls out when door is wide open filling with wood.. I usually run a brush up my pipe chimney every couple weeks. Easy to do from the bottom
