My younger daughter just got accepted at the U of M - Duluth for this coming fall. She decided not to go to UW - Madison. I'm sure there are some alumni and current students on Trapperman. that went to Duluth. Any comments about the school would be appreciated. She isn't sure of a major yet, she likes graphic design, likes computers, so her options are wide open. I'm sure the College is liberal, like most colleges, I just told her when she is gone to remember her values and make good choices.

UMD is a good school, you’re right, it’s liberal but the education is outstanding. If she’s living in the dorms or in east Duluth or Lakeside she’ll be good, just warn her to be careful in downtown Duluth and West Duluth, the neighborhoods are sketchy. Superior is right across the bridge and the cost of living is significantly lower. Duluth is a good city for college kids and there will be lots to see and explore.

I live in the community and can tell you that the students up here speak very highly of the college. What helps is the college is located around smaller communities and they prefer that over the big cities. All are pleased with the teachers and staff.

Gerald, your daughter has helped me many times over the years at your open houses or conventions. Due to great parenting, I really doubt you or Doreen will have to worry about her forgetting to make good choices or remembering her values.

Gerald. My niece is finishing up her 1st year at UMD. She really enjoys it. Will be living off campus next year with 3 other gals. She is really excited. Also she plans on doing her major in 3 years. My brother and his wife are very happy with the college as well.

Glad to hear your daughter is going to college. Wish her the best. Graphic design is in my opinion a fantastic career going forward.

Congratulations! I went to Madison so I can’t comment on Duluth. But it’s a great feeling to see our kids succeed!! I’m sure their curriculum is more than fine.

I never went there but have worked with people who have. Many good comments.
One former coworker bombed it of UMD. he admits it was his fault. He said his blood alcohol content was higher than his GPA.

For the most part, I am a victim of my own decisions.

A good hunting/fishing buddy went to UMD in wildlife biology. He worked for WIDNR as a WL Biologist for > 30 years. He really liked the school. MN has very good colleges and curriculums. My wife and I love Duluth.

I resemble that remark.

My youngest son went there and got his Masters degree in biology. He is now the environmental biologist for the 1854 Treaty Authority. I'd agree that it is a good university to attend.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!
