Thought this was pretty cool. About the only person I've seen with a set up like hot I think I'd like to go about things. Especially that tang sight. Also always wondered why I never saw people use regular cast bullets like that. Paper patching is definitely a cool touch

Same here. Use to be .36 but they upped it to .40 in the early 80s.

not legal in many states

WE used to have a Minimum of 40 rifle or 44 pistol it fell victim to the constant consolidation of our regs

apparently we can now hunt deer with anything as long as we make it work.

we also used to have a reg that said minimum 22 caliber center fire for rifles and that also went away

my local warden wanted to hit a poacher with a citation for insufficient equipment in 2020 and because of how they reworded the regs for 2020 he could not give the guy a citation for insufficient for using a 17hmr
he wrote him every other possible citation he could for the poaching but since the trophy buck dropped in it's tracks with a 17hmr it wasn't insufficient

proving where you hit anything is a lot more important than what you hit it with.

I'll stick with my 54 round ball for deer out of a muzzleloader. 32's are squirrel guns. I wouldn't even grab my 36 as a deer rifle.

Like GCP said, we don't really have a minimum here, as long as what you shoot dies. I still won't grab a 22LR for deer.

and this is a recent change I think it happened in the 2020 consolidation , but it may have been 2019

one of them still said it was illegal to use rimfire and last I looked I could not even find that , because when they had the 2020 wording I brought it up that the ladies at HQ were telling people the minimum was 22 center fire but the way it read was any equipment capable of reasonably reducing a game animal to possession for bag limit.

meaning they didn't want you saying well I have 1 doe tag and 1 buck tag and these @#$%^&*() deer are destroying my garden and shooting 12 deer in such a way they would run off with no blood trail and die another day , serving your purpose of taking 12 deer with out filling a tag but being very wasteful.

so while pointing out 204 ruger , 5.45x39 ,17 remingtion , 17-223 , 20 tactical and several other wild cats I also brought up what about 44 rim fire , technically it is a rim fire and sure it is some what obscure but it is on par with a 44-40 and more powerful than other allowed cartridges.

32 might work on a smaller doe without winter hair such as the one in the video but penatration will be lacking on a bigger buck in full winter coat. My 32 with round ball and 20 grains of FFF will not go thru a 3/4 inch sheet of plywood at 50 yards. Unless the ball went between the ribs it will not make the vitals. A 32 round ball is about the same size as a 00 buckshot. I have skinned a lot of roadkill deer that survived 1 buckshot thru the upper chest (scar on the hide and buckshot pellet just under the skin on the oppsite side.).

He used a conical bullet that has a lot mote mass than a round ball and I think he showed 30gr of powder in the video befor deer hunting so he should get better preformance.

Still would not be my choice unless I was starve and was all I had.

He picked his shot. Waited till the deer were close. Put in time shooting paper. I think he was perfectly ethical. I keep having thoughts of a 32 flinter. maybe one of those Kibler rifles. I did this a couple years ago. Got close shot careful. 44 cap and ball. Shot a 200 grain soft lead cast bullet stead of a ball. Here in KS muzzle loader season is still almost summer. Real pain to take care of the meat. In regular gun season a black powder gun is legal . If I do it again it will be winter.

P.S. if I buy a 32 it will be for paper and rabbits and squirrels

I was looking at a .32 or 36 for squirrel. Thay I tried shooting a rife with open sights and realized my eyes are not what hey used to be. So I'd I went that way it would get a scope and not be so pretty.

Used a 36cal. seneca for years It shot 158 grain lead hornady's better then anything else of course with iron sites there were no long shots taken in the dark Our regs in those days stated .44 cal.or larger roundball only so tc maxi-balls were technically illegal as would have been sabots if they'd have been around

.45 here in Pa. also and believe that's about right when round balls are legal also.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

I think about the same. That pair with making the right bullet with the right alloy.... I mean air gun guys are using 30.cal air guns all the time to drop deer and their goin less then
800fps most times so.... What's so different about a muzzleloader? Also feel like their might be some stuff you can do with using various bullets instead of round balls.... possibly not sure honestly but again after seeing what peoel do with cast sub Sonic in .30cal and under I'm curious

I have Devil Anses old 44-40 and in WV I can use it as a Black Powder. The only time I take it off of the wall. I figure if it was good enough for the Battleof the Grapevine it is good enough to Deer Hunt. It is Accurate as heck as well. Those old Henrys were good guns.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.
