Best I can find the scene was shot at the actual US cemetery in France. I'm not a veteran did have family and friends that fought in WW2. Never heard any of them say anything negative about the movie. One comment from older friend I recall. Was how real the street scenes with blown up shot up buildings was. Just all destruction.

It depends on the director. Clint eastwood did a dang good job with American sniper. A Memorial for one of the greatest snipers in world history. And that wasn't that long ago really A good show indeed.

I still can't believe Finster started this- it sounds like a debate Catch22 would instigate

I still can't believe Finster started this- it sounds like a debate Catch22 would instigate I'm just asking questions. not trying to start anything. I'm sorry people are taking it that way. I just think that cemeteries, especially military cemeteries, are sacred places and should be preserved as such. I do not think they sould be filmed for profit. That's the entire reason for this thread.

So if it brings to light the battles and lives lost for freedom that’s bad? If they are exploiting the dead for their own gain, then I would say yes. Should he be leaning on the grave of a solider that was killed in battle decades ago as a prop? Cemeteries are not props.

I have seen pictures of Arlington cemetery, what difference would a little footage matter? I never really thought about it that way. Would you like the graves of your kin used in such a manner? Making profit for an industry that would spit on them? Not getting your grip. Used in what manner? I took it as a tribute and paying respect to a man that helped Ryan get home to live and raise a family. If your reffering to making money from something. Better not spend any and all money your stocks will make from companies that use child labor or might have crooked dealings around the world. Start looking at things in that light hard to point at someone NOT profiting off of someones loss.....

From what I understand the scenes in the cemetery are the actual cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer Normandy, and great pains were taken to maintain dignity and respect. Minimal crew, short time taken to film.
The landing scenes took place on the actual beaches and took 15 days to complete. After which great pains were taken to remove the whole set and restore the beaches.

Obviously, dignity and respect were observed. My question is should it have happened at all? People are expanding this far past the original question. I'm just wondering if people are ok with letting an industry that hates this country and hates the military film real places of honor to make a profit. That's been my only question.

I don't think that movie disrespects the dead in the Normandy American cemetery at all. Now the money made by the media when Jane Fonda sat on that anti aircraft gun in Hanoi? Those media outlets and Jane too are disgusting.
