Driving into Iowa this morning to pick up a bale feeder and I got to reading about your gun laws. Starting with Nebraska/Iowa ccw reciprocity and then about that of carrying a loaded firearm.

What I got from it was “except where permitted by law, carrying a loaded firearm is not permitted”

So my question is, when does the law permit it?

The law allows open carry anywhere it is not prohibited by law. For example, courthouses, schools, federal buildings, any business that posts a sign prohibiting firearms on the premises etc. Other than that, you can open carry anywhere you want to.

Iowa had some strange laws passed in the 70s about handguns , they have now gone changed much of it with good CCL then constitutional carry passed , so it has gotten a lot better.

I was at a Range in IA several years hack and they had a law that kids under 14 could not shoot handguns at a public range , which I though was strange.

maybe this will help answer questions for you

That’s great, looks like they are headed in the right direction. Years ago, we were building power lines around the storm lake area and on the first night of arriving we were driving into our rental house and got pulled over for speeding. Being from Nebraska and not even giving thought to there being different state laws I instinctively tossed my 45 onto the dash and very into the open.

Things escalated very quickly upon the officer making it to the window. Things finally settled down, the officer realized it was a misunderstanding involving an uneducated young man and took my Nebraska handgun purchase permit and decided that was good enough for him and weren’t a threat and unloaded it and sent us on our way.

I have a buddy with a very similar story that had a very different ending however. He spent a night in jail and had to put some effort into getting his firearms back from the state of Iowa.

Not so long ago, the Sheriff in each county decided if CC was allowed, the map looked like a checker board of allowed/not allowed county's.

yeah the idea off tossing your gun on the dash is so contrary to what makes sense

180* from what a criminal would do also , why I suppose it works for NE

in WI we only have to notify if asked , if you choose to voluntarily notify you pass them your CCL with your drivers license

and you NEVER voluntarily notify in Milwaukee because even when you have done nothing wrong there they will take your gun and let you go get it back in the monthly gun court , because they "secure" your gun for officer safety but then say they can't be liable for giving you your gun back only a judge has that authority. it is strait up harassments and everyone knows it but it is legal harassments.

so concealed means concealed so that there is No way they will see it if you go armed in MKE
