They can't even answer a phone? Any decent business needs to be avaliable to answer questions and address problems.

Wolfer, am I correctly understanding that you are basing your opinion on the results of one or two sales largely pushed by crafters? Also if your getting a quarter pound of castor from each beaver, that's pretty impressive.

When buyers try to tell me how profitable beaver trapping is, i ask them why they don’t go catch their own and make some of that good money.

That usually ends the nonsense.

dont know why any one would laugh at such a sad thing as fur prices when a lot of other things are higher than they have ever been

If the market comes back, it won't be on this sale. My hope is they move most goods with slight increase.

I emailed them and had everything updated in one day. You don’t have to send your furs to them that’s your choice. Go back and read this entire thread. Read what you are arguing about. Petty. We better stick together or we will all fall. Unbelievable the bickering that goes on.

WOW-We trappers sure cannot get along or agree on anything in these down times. Everyone mouthing off about our last auction house in North America-come on already. Prices are what they are and yes times for the fur business are not the greatest but lets at least show some sort of positive vibes on all this rather beat each other up over speculation. I think if we get some buyers in the room once again we'll see some spit in the fight for fur. Beaver will shine this auction. Coyotes maybe not so much.I have a feeling some of us will be pleasantly surprised. As far as the amount of fur being shown-well I also feel it's because of more than just the end prices-Gasoline and diesel are through the roof-and with alot of us-something had to be given up and trapping fur was probably the first or second activity to get shelved for better times. The whole world is weird right now and the fur business is caught amongst it all. Times will get better guys and gals-take it easy on each other and our last true fur auction house for raw and dressed fur.

I'm glad FHA is still in the game. I can't see how attacking them is in any trapper's best interest. They obviously have a business model that works and that is a model that is not big and flashy to say the least. Otherwise they would be gone like NAFA, Copenhagen, etc. Cutting overhead in lean times is a given yes even if that means customer service lags.

Drasselt got it figured out.
FHA can only go by the BOD(trappers) decisions when it comes down to it.

Some people dont have a work ethic.
$100 a beaver wouldnt be enough for some.
Some are so bad they actually want money for doing nothing.

The way I see it, the harder you work at this game the more money you would lose. Call me crazy, but yea, thats how I see it.

your right it isnt the auction or buyers thats the problem and if this thing does turn around the guys that go every year for fear they wont have any fur if it does turn around will take longer to start showing a profit than ones that quit in years back waiting for better times

As for less fur offered this time around, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to figure with low fur prices less trappers putting up fur. I know I did very little trapping in 2022, and did not ship anything to FHA for the March auction. And someone here stated the high shipping rate ? Our NY agent only charges $15 regardless how much you ship, and first time shippers its free, and less than $100 sale value also free shipping.

That was probably my post about the high shipping. We don't have a FH agent in the deep south......so, I'd have to ship to an agent up the country via UPS or FedEx...and then pay the agent too....

They wouldn't need anyone babysitting anything if they had functioning online access, which they didn't for months, without explanation. See how that works? You know, technology to save money, but then again, you have your head so far up their posterior it's amazing you can breathe.

Swamp wolf, OK that explains your point, not having a shipping agent and shipping so far is a huge problem for those in the Deep South.
