Wow! That is crazy. I'd be interested in knowing if he trapped them or raised them from cubs and then taught them to pull a plow. Tough old bird right there. Different breed of people back then.

330, my grandpa was like the pictured fellow. Used mules for plowing and harvesting.
Had a harvest crew he ran in the early 1900s. All done with mule , horse, and hand power.
Kansas was where he lived and started a big family.
Moved to Oregon for a better life but still did farm work. Tough man he was.
A bear he did not have though.
