Name me another business format that the producer has so little control over his product once it leaves his possession and b4 the producer has seen one cent of his product's value.

The very least any auction company can do (in this modern internet age) is make it convenient for the producer to track his product thru the entire process, including live view of the sale.

I think I'll just continue to sell what few southern pelts at the back of the Groenwold truck....which is the ONLY real option here anyway.

Hey einstein-read the conditions of sale.
No one is forcing you to ship your fur if you dont like the conditions of sale.
By the way I hear NAFA has a great computer-ship your fur there.

Dont pee on yourself Boco when the facts are presented. You are just like the rest of us....only 1 or 2 options to market your raw fur.

And I'm not into tanning, sewing and all that novelty crap..

Btw..NAFA was the same way, except they had a better system set up on the producer's end.

Why us trappers started our own auction house in the first place.
The board of directors makes sure the profits go first to running the buisness and expanding the facility when necessary, promoting fur and in years when there are profits above and beyond the necessities back to the trappers in RPC rebates.

Boco, could you expound on the part about promoting fur, please.

They market fur from both ends. They send people to attend all the fur fairs to show and promote our product internationally and recruit buyers for our fur.
Also FHA puts on fur handling workshops all over the North as part of their exclusive marketing agreements with the Governments in the North that have their own marketing programs for the harvesters.
This guarantees that the top quality Northern fur will only come thru FHA for the international buyers, and it will be a well handled and uniform highly desired collection.
FHA also expanded into the west and the USA not too long ago,to help trappers that were left hanging by NAFA.

This is all common knowledge available to all shippers/members/voting delegates who care to know.
I am not an employee of FHA,just a shipper like everyone else.
I do make a point to attend the AGM every year to keep informed and vote for my director on the board.

When prices come back up it will be in part because FHA continued to be bullish on the market and invest in promoting wild fur.

If you are talking of the commercial goods (marten, lynx beaver etcn) it is the market slump--at least it is still selling and climbing in price.unlike other fur. Also the harvesters in the north benefit from their own gov'ts marketing programs so they are out on the land producing, keeping the fur trade alive.FHA works closely with these northern marketing programs for the benefit of the harvesters and the trade as a whole.
But the northern fur like wolves and wolverines that are promoted by FHA overseas sell for high prices.

Wolves and Wolverines always sold higher because of the scarcity....way before any promotion.

Fha has just recently been realizing near the full value for wolves and wolverines. I was getting these prices twenty years ago by not sending them to Canadian auctions. Notice the discussion on the wilderness forum about where to sell wolverines and nobody so far has suggested fha.

True, FHA's wolverine prices have become attractive in recent years. For sure the conventional wisdom forever was that Alaska was the best market for local wolf and wolverine. I would have shipped wolverine for the upcoming sale but the receiving date was too early.

Peeler, you're over your PM message limit. Don't sell your beaver to early this season they WILL BE worth more at the K-falls sale than they are now.

For a number of years now the wolves and wolverine that FHA sells have had the majority going to the USA. Ask Mark, a lot of them go to Alaska to be sold to tourists and native crafts.

The poorly handled ones may go to craft but the good ones all go to the taxi markets.
Polar bears were going to China for a long time and there was a buyer from France taking some.
Polar bears are banned in the USA.

With 250K of rats on the auction we will see what price levels they will receive and what clearances they may have. Hope they go up and reflect the considerable shortage with the last couple year's harvest and FHA could use the income as well.
