I'm sorry for you loss. We all owe a debt of gratitude to your Father and appreciate his sacrifice.

My grandfather Served in Korea but wouldn't say a word about it other than "I was a cook", if you asked him anything about serving in the Army all he ever said was "I was just a cook". He wouldn't even shoot a cow to butcher when he got back. It must of been unbelievably difficult serving over there. If you have any stories of your Fathers service I would highly encourage you to write them down.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, & I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve

My dad served in Korea also. He was in motor pull. Repaired tanks, jeeps trucks. He said he only picked up a rifle twice while he was there.

He did not say much about his time there but he made friends with people that he served with while there Those bonds that where made in the heat of the battle ran very deep Another thing he would talk about was how the Army would give them free cigarettes He was not a smoker when he went there but quickly became one And he returned a smoker until 1974 And he would often say even just the last few years he still had the urge to smoke They are as addicting and any kind of drug you can think of .He took me and his daughter to Washington DC to see the war memorials about 15 years ago .They had recently at the time made some changes to the Korean War Memorials .The Vietnam wall and the World War II memorials are nearby and we got to see them all .EVERYONE SHOULD GO TO SEE THEM !! It gives added meaning to all the men and women that served their country . I know it pleased my father in law that the USA WAS HONORING ALL THAT SERVED .

My father was in the Korean war he only talked about it a couple of times. He was a medic and received the bronze star and silver star and a purple heart he was with the 187th and made a combat jump there. .He was very lucky to be alive he was pulling a wounded trooper that was taking fire in the open and was shot in the head which as he put it knocked him silly but his helmet saved him and he had only about a 3 inch scar on the side of his head. He said he thought for sure he was gonna get sent to the rear but that never happened.

My Father as well served in Korea. he always said the country was beautiful and would liked to have visited after the war.
He was a forward observer, or artillery spotter. he spent lots of time behind the lines and got a letter of recc. from his commanding officer.
He talked of it some times but passed 30 years ago.
We do have pics he took while in the service.

My Dad served in Vietnam as well mas my Uncle spent 18 months and 21 days in a POW Camp. He was an MIA for two months before it was straightened out. He came home skin and Bones and his wife remarried and had his very young son calling another man Dad. I think that tore him up more than anything. He came home to NOTHING!! He was still a Hero in Town and was buried in the Family Cemetery with full honors in his Uniform.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.
