Picked up another red today, that makes 19 fox out of my little line of a dozen exposed sets. Caught a skunk in this set and since then it’s produced 2 reds in three checks. I love trapping the high country. Picked up another skunk too, in a set that’s already produced three greys. My next check I’ll be pulling the line and my season will be over

I love trail, blind or exposed trap set ups. They are very productive sets and will catch just about everything that comes down that trail. Some never get it to click well for them. But once you get on to them they are a joy to work daily.

I’m hoping it has another grey on tomorrow’s check, but two of the last three fox I caught were rubbed pretty good, and I’d rather leave em be if they aren’t well furred. Otherwise you bet I’d be leaving that one set! Up in that country they’re a long ways away from any chicken coops, and I gotta leave some seed for next season lol.

Tomorrow I’m gonna try to take my time, savor the last check, take lots of pics of the country and the sets and make a seasons end post. I wouldn’t be near as good a trapper as I am today if it wasn’t for a lot of you guys on this forum. I appreciate all the advice and knowledge I’ve been given here through the years, and I learn more every day.

Me too. Once I figured out how and where to put them they became my go to set for fox. I’ve yet to figure out how to get coyotes in em but I’m working on learning blind sets for those too. This year I made it a point to really focus on learning blind trail/exposed sets and it has paid huge dividends. I doubt I will use a whole lot of baited sets in the future, except maybe for coyotes. The trail sets are so deadly once you get them dialed in. All mine are on drags, so I just keep putting them right back in the same spot, and they just keep catching fur, I think they get better every time they catch something.

Bob a couple weeks back I caught a bobcat in an exposed set. Had to see that it worked for myself. Last Saturday, to my surprise I had a coyote in that same exposed set. I had another exposed set covering another trail that was flipped out of its bed and the exposed set I had him in was flipped out of its bed a couple days before. Best I can figure the coyote was flipping those traps so he could safely run his nose into the lure at the set. Guess he misjudged on his technique with that set.Lol.
