Honda has automotive transmission. Polaris has belt-driven transmission.

Which is better? Do a little internet research...

I have owned and used extensively Polaris, Kawasaki and now a Honda Pioneer 1000.
I will buy another Honda when that day comes.

I own 4 Polaris, good machines, one is 31 years old and still runs fine. That said if price is not a problem buy the Honda.

GUK.....it's the sound they make when they hit the end of the cable

Oldest Polaris I have is a 2004 Ranger 500, Regular oil & filter changes, K & N air filter from 2004, new belt in 2019 & brake pads in 2019. Other than batteries that came with it & spark plugs get changed when needed. Have no idea how the new Polaris Rangers are, but I'll keep this one going till parts are no longer made for it. When this was bought new, title cost for machine, windshield, roof, back glass & 4500 warn winch was 12,000. I'd be afraid to get a price now.

Do you want a long lasting more utility focused machine that will most likely last “forever” with few if any issues? If so, go Honda! :-D Do you do a lot of trail/recreational and fast riding? If so, then go Polaris, CanAm, or whatever. Happy trapping! ScottW

Honda is the most reliable ATV made. And to my knowledge the only one you can still get with gears (either foot shift or electric shift). Just depends on if they make one with the features and designed for what you want to do. I have ran Arctic Cat TBXs for years and had good luck with them. Unfortunately they quit making them back in 2020 so I won't be getting another new one. Haven't decided what I am going to get next time. I'd already have a new one if they still made a TBX but will probably run my current one until it is shot since they don't.

I've never been a Polaris fan, lots of issues and maintenance from the ones I've been around. But I haven't totally ruled out their 6x6 simply because it is the only ATV made right now with a decent bed for hauling.

We had a couple newer Polaris 6x6 at work. They are nice and stable for uneven terrain, hilly stuff etc and can haul a decent amount. But both of them had issues with A-arm bolts breaking when hauling big loads in uneven terrain. The old straight shaft ones we had before the new ones were much more solid. But, not many 6x6 options as you say. They definitely have their place with the nice big box. Kinda like having UTV cargo but not the annoying width. Happy trapping! ScottW

Seems high. Honda 520 with windshield and roof today is only 10k.

What do you intend to do with it?
I owned three consecutive Polaris UTVs (I trade mine in every three years or so to keep new rigs on my line since I get paid to trap, not take buggies in for service) and all of them had issues. Primary clutch. Secondary clutch. Clogged carbs from the dust. Whinny noses from places the dealership couldn't find. A-Arm support breakage. And I treat all my gear with routine maintenance and cleanliness best I can. Stuff is too expensive to abuse and let sit dirty. But leave Polaris I did because 0 for 3 in a decade was the end of our relationship. Kawasaki mules were next and I owned two of them. Top single seat models all decked out as my working mobile. I drive 60-100 miles per day on these ranches and need comfort + reliability + ease of function with what the UTV has. RP never flat tires, brush guards in front and underneath and the top of the line in order to be efficient on the trap line day in day out. Mules were very good to me and so easy to maintain too. Oil and air filter easily accessible and changeable.

But this Honda I now own is SO MUCH MACHINE for yes, a bit of $$$$. But it depends on what you want? Are you gonna use it? or USE IT? Honda's drive shaft and road suspension is so much superior to anything I've had before. Today is day 30 on this ranch and again, as we pull traps today, I will ride 75-80 miles and it's as smooth a machine as I've ever owned working out of it. My back and legs and body aren't sore and beat up after a long day on the Honda. Can't say that about the other vendors.

So again, what are you intending to do with it?
That's the key to your answer.

Add in a 4,500 warn winch
