Scored this little gem on eBay last week

Watched some YouTube to see how to clean it up.

And now have 3 coats of seasoning on it.

I did the vinegar soak...and stripped it to bare cast with one of my (Rice Cakes) at my Body Shop...

I gotta question. I keep seeing guys getting excited about old Cast Iron, is there a reason it's better than new stuff or do people just enjoy the vintage aspect of it?

The older stuff is better quality. The finish on the old pans cooking surface is smooth, you dont find that on many new cast iron. I have quite a few vintage cast iron pand and fryers. They will last multiple life times.

Old stuff is polished a little donnersurvivor. We don't fry in anything else. Stuff never wears out.

The old vintage stuff has a smoother finish ( cooking area) ...Back when everyone took pride in their work.

Just like my straight razors from 1840 -1940 ...wicked steel back then...and smooth shaving .

And just like a pre 64 ..Rifle

“They say” it will get to be shinny black ...the more you use it.

They date my pan from 1935-59... still trying to nail it down ,if possible.

My uncle always told me that in a lot of cast iron was to look at the shape/size of the handle hole. Also to look for notches and other small markings to get it narrowed down even more.

Those skillets are all sexy.

Scored at #3 and #8

Pans cleaned up real easy with the rice cake

And don't wobble or spin

The #8 is dated 1939-44

The #3 is dated 1944-50

Nice looking skillets. Too bad they weren't free. wink

It'll be nice to see them all re-seasoned polished black.
