About the year 2003, my mother gave me two kerosene lamps, pictured below... I had several others, but living in Florida I never knew when a storm would blow up and knock out the power. I decided to clean and fix them up at the time. The one burner was pretty rough I decided to take it off and see if I could clean it. In the process it was so old and worn, it crushed in my hand. It couldn't be saved so I bought a new burner and used it on several occasions after that. The other one I have never tried to do anything with it until now.

So, I am wondering about getting the burner off. Even though it is brass it is corroded on there. Should I spray WD-40 or penetrating oil or what? The other thing as you see in the photo the bowl that holds the oil is extremely caked or coated with residue from whatever they burned in it. I can't tell the condition or what to do with it until I get the burner off.

Well, now you see what I got any suggestions??? Mother said she thought they had belonged to her grandparents, which would be my great grandparents.

We had one when we lived on the coast. Filled it with colored lamp oil that had no odor. Don't think we ever used it. Used the generator. Think we sold it at a yard sale.

You might try soaking it in EVAPO-RUST. I've had good luck with it.

You can soak the bowl in gasoline when you get the burner off. Not sure how stuck the burner is but at any rate it needs replaced. Also replace the wicks. You can order them on line. Yours are a common size. Used to be able to buy them in hardware stores maybe still can. Turning your lamp upside down and soaking the burner in gas should also loosen it.

Fill them with white vinegar let set for a couple days. Swish them around now and then. Rinse with hot water and they dry out pretty good. I use them at my camp.
I would put new burners in them and buy a couple spare wicks.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

I believe I'd try penetrating oil. I wouldn't use it though. Might try wrapping a leather strap around the threads to keep equal pressure on it while unscrewing it if you want to keep it.
