Cats are trending up, but let’s not forget that accounting for inflation, those $500 dollar cats are $300 dollar cats a couple years ago. Use to figure 200-300 average makes wages, 400-500 average makes money. Hold ‘em, let demand increase.

ShagMan, you do any cat trapping on the east side in the arkansas valley?

Sort of like stocks, I can always look back and see what times used to be. Where things are now and look like for the near term … but that is the focus.
Something to consider. Speculate and wait, or take what bone the market sends you.
Thanks for the price updates.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Just left an association fur sale here in Arkansas and cats seemed to be doing quite well. Otter and especially beaver have advanced. Lack of supply is what I figure.

Next season cat prices will be up a lot for my section I believe. Harvest was way down this year, I know that more than a couple long line cat trappers here left their traps in the shed this year. Supply will be down, price will go up.

Not really a bad idea to rest a cat line for a year when you think about it.

I can't stand all the optimism going on around here. There are at least 3 different threads going on predicting improvement in the fur market. Say it ain't so. sick

If what they were paying for southern beaver holds you'll be needing hip boots. Crazy prices.

Where are these threads predicting such price increases and high southern beavers?

Swamp wolf, im hearing 10 dollar green beaver and 30 dollar put up otter, not sure what went on in Arkansas today so those may be last weeks price's. At least fur is moving along somewhere, that's a good sign for ALL fur.

Hmm.. that's not real exciting. But at least it is a slight uptick.

Nuttier than that. I don't know what in Hades was going on but a $30 green beaver wasn't uncommon. Plum crazy.

I guess everybody will be a beaver trapper now. Lol. I think I witnessed a short catch and a bidding war. Good for those trappers who had plews to sell.

Most trappers will not think about how prices need to be almost twice the old profit level in 2013’ to be the new price level in 2023. They want to trap and they need an excuse. They will probably flood the market and keep prices below the old level inflation adjusted. This may not apply to high dollar bobcat trappers, but most other species it probably will.

With beaver it seems there are fewer folks that produce good numbers and know how to put them up. Pretty much all the high number beaver trappers I ever knew have passed or are too infirm to be at it any longer. We're dying out.

This has sort of evolved into a beaver conversation, but word is that ranch mink are making a comeback. Remember when they went sky high and mink ranches were sprouting up like Pot dispensaries? Then COVID came along and they destroyed and burned several million of them. Now the demand has sort of caught up to supply. Once ranch mink move, you'll see all water critters do an uptake.
