Very common here to see three or four mixed breed dogs running deer or harassing other wildlife and domestic animals. I just can’t get back in anywhere far enough to avoid them potentially. I live in the country and have had many dog issues at my place over the years from running deer to killing my chickens and ducks. I will say that when you deal with this every day for 50 years you develop ways to resolve your own issues.

I have had terrible luck with dogs. Been in middle of 35000 acres and caught dog. Caught owners dog = 4 miles from house. It was suppost to never leave porch LOL!! Been almost chewed up by pitbull that weight 80 lbs. Had a run in with = Man and Wife that where trespassing on 12000 acres GW got involved. I was in right. In alabama a trapper has NO liability on injuring aniamal on private land. That resulted in me having to ALMOST shoot someone. Told sheriff = Im not dying over a stupid dog. Thankfully. The man stopped reaching for gun. Things with dog people = in south. Can escalate quickly. Dog man. Not many years ago. Kill man who shot dog On hunting club porch. Was in Birmingham News 5 or 6 years ago. People can be NUTS about dogs

Since people think of dogs as their children then the 'parent' of such K9 should be held liable for its well-being. If you allowed your human child to play in traffic you would be charged with child endangerment. Why not the same for dogs? Knowingly allowing your dog to roam where it may encounter a trappers traps should make the dog owner liable for any ill will that comes upon the animal.

The reason they say they never leave the porch is they lay there all day after having a night of deer chasing.

You can't do that this day and age, it makes too much sense!

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

If it’s a one time deal, it sounds like you’ve handled it well so far.

If it’s an ongoing problem, I would protect myself by talking to your agents to see what they say and to see what State law is. The agents are there to help and will almost certainly know how to proceed. By talking with the agents and telling the owner that their dogs are interfering with your legal, licensed activities, at least you can show that you tried in the unfortunate event that something gets sideways.

I had a couple who had a Mutt that kept chasing my Horses. The County Sherriff had a word with him until one day my wifes horse Kicked him in the head. It was just a quick side kick and it went down for good. I called them to come and get their dog. Hasn't been another since.

Thanks all. Pretty sure these dogs live in a junk car with a door open. I have pulled my traps for the year. 3 Bobcats no Coyotes a smattering of Coons and Possums. Not Good but I did see a 12 pack of turkeys in the lower field. 1st sighting since November. Hoping I helped the deer and turkey population.

I complained for 14 months straight about my neighbors dogs. They came to our place ( 1/4 mile from their home) and killed our whole chicken flock, a deer, and one of our barn cats. I started nicely asking them to keep them at home until they ate through our fenced and killed our chickens. The guy never did - just gave me lip service. I didn't want to be the SSS guy and so kept on Animal Control. It's a public job so many people who work there are woke youngsters who would argue with me about what killed my chickens and I should keep them inside the barn, ect. After I called 2 senators, a representative and my county board president they finally took the animals. This guy is a convicted drug dealer raising attack dogs and letting them run free. My wife and I like to hunt and be in our woods and I have calves and tame deer. We live on a farm and all of the animals were killed within 50 feet of our house. My wife was scarred to go outside without me. I told the guy I would shoot them if he didn't keep them off my place.

The whole thing turned me sour on public employees doing their jobs.

As far as dogs in traps. I have let all but a few go. Most are good dogs and easy to let go and the owners probably didn't even know they got caught in a trap. I have had a few that are the meanest nasty wild dogs you ever ran across. They didn't make it.

Just passin through
