Once it decides to stop flooding here, i need to do some magnet fishing to recover some traps that were in the middle of beaver dams. Those dams don't exist now as a result of the floods. Tried using a drag and dredging the likely areas but too many waterlogged logs.

So what's a good magnet to get?

Some people get magnets off of eBay. I like to tear old speakers and subwoofers apart for magnets.

Looks like pretty good quality.
Haven't caught anything yet but I do have a colony trap somewhere in a nearby creek to fish for.

I ordered one that claimed its got 1500 lb of pull. It does not or I wouldn't be able to remove things from it. But it is a strong magnet and I did recover the rifle I bought it to recover it with. I believe I just bought the strongest one listed on Amazon.

I have one I bought off Amazon.com. Don't remember the pull rate but if it was any stronger and I attached to heavy metal under water I would never get it back.
I tried it in a spillway and recovered a few tin cans.

I have 4 different magnets I use all work well for some items. Two that I have I got at Harbor freight. When I got them they were around $20 not sure what they are now. The would be plenty good to pick up a trap if not stuck in brush. I know it easily handled a 1/2 drive battery impact in 8 ft water. The other two magnets I have are the regular ones from the internet sold as fishing magnets. I don't recall the lift in lbs. I think they were in the $35-$40 range.
All of my magnets have paid for them selves.

Harbor Freight sells some super strong mags with a built in lifting ring.

A local guy I have met out on the water has a Youtube channel. His handle is The Fisher. I talked to him one day and he said he quit his job and does Youtube for a full time job. He is sponsored by Brute magnetics.

At checkout put in -- thefisher. It will save you 10%

I have multiple magnets that I have found and it is a good thing to have laying around.
