Does anybody know of a tannery that offers intact fur dressing for black bear hides? I have a bear hide that I want tanned. All I want it for is a wall hanger and was hoping to find a place that will offer this. I am not against taxidermy tanning. It just isn't as soft as intact fur dressing. I have used Moyle in the past for fur bearers. I have reached out to them and am awaiting a response from them.

Yost fur dressing in Sturgeon Bay. They do really nice work, not terribly cheap, though.

Leo Lewin ( Z&L) has been tanning furs since God was a boy. He does garment grade tanning for many furriers. He used to have his operations in the Garment District of NYC, but moved out to New Jersey a while back. He’s old school, and a delight to talk to. No website, he answers the phone himself.
I have shipped to him for many years, just stopped at UPS today the send him a box. Last year, my stuff was back in my hands 20 days after I shipped.

Big brownie - 20 day turnaround?? That is unheard of!! Either you are his only customer (I know that isn’t true) or Leo is giving you special rush service. Good for you!!

Funny thing when sending furs to Z & L….Leo wants you to put a colored zip tie through the eye of each pelt. He says it helps him keep track of who the hides belong to. I always use blue ones. I always wondered, what if others used blue ? One year, he realized he sent me someone else’s red fox, rather than my own.He was quite concerned, and gave me credit to ship it back to him. The level of service he puts out, you’d think he was a small time guy just puttering around, but that’s not the case. He must really dislike computers, as he has no website ( he does answer emails ), but he’d rather text you.
