This contraption was sitting in the woods, on the bank of a swamp where I’m trapping. I contacted the property owner as to what it was. It was used to dredge peat out of the swamp, which was sold. I found a video that shows it in use. The farmer told me that instead of a boom, there was a heavy cable straddling the swamp that the dredge bucket was suspended from.

Here’s the video of one of the Sauerman Brothers in operation.

I have seen winches similar to that in old Colorado gold mines

Here's my interesting find for the year. Caught two XXL cats off this rock and I think I know what they were eating.

I recall seeing them old drag line buckets on cranes when I was kid. Was usually by gravel pits dragging out of water. That is quit a chunk steel right there wonder what kind pull it has.

They parked a tractor by it and it ran off of a belt.

Nice find Bigbrownie.

I found an old steam boiler years ago. Apparently it was used to power the system the loggers were using to pull turns up the hills.

Eh...wot?

That's cool- I found one used for what I presumed to be a similar application when trapping a DOT site. I'm sure OSHA approved

I have found so much stuff over the past 50+ years of being in the woods, I wish I would have taken the time to document it more on video or photos. Here's one time I did.

We had one like that down in Logan. It was a slope Mine and it pulled the men and equipment up and down. Probably still there.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Actually you can, if you make an application for a salvage permit, which I did.
