In the past I have used 7x7 3/32 cable (not loaded) with a cam lock for beaver. I am hearing a lot about using 1/19 5/64 loaded cable for beaver. What say you on what snare is best and with what lock?? Also, can the snare you recommend be purchased already made from a supplier? If so what supplier? Thank you

Nothing wrong with the ones you have been using but I'd load them. You can see how in my video here...

I assume you are not snaring them for their fur?
Snares are generally pretty hard on beaver fur in my experience.

Neck snare your beaver and no 7x7 snares and you hardly get damage with a swiveled snare.

The 1x19 5/64" holds a nice stiff loop when loaded properly. I like micro-locks or slim locks with that cable. They fire fast. That cable is slicker.

The 7x7 3/32" cable works good too. I like the small penny lock with this cable. Larger diameter and don't hide as easily.

I use vinyl tubing whammys and #9 wire supports. I add a loop stop. I also make the snares with the #6 swivels attached to end loop. I use 4 to 6 foot cable extensions, connected to swivel with 1/8" quick links. I stake down with rebar or half-hitch to trees.

You can get custom made snares from several supply dealers. Southern Snares being one.

All my beaver trapping is ADC. I don't snare beaver for their fur, but I do sell the pelts....hatter market. I dont worry about snare marks or a tuft of fur pulled out.

Swamp Wolf gives good advice…I make all of my own snares and have used virtually every cable type. I will say this…Most of my beaver snares are under ice and damage is nonexistent. Most all of my work is ADC and effectiveness is priority. I like 1x19 5/64 because it holds a nice stiff loop. I also like the micro locks. I load the snares so they go all at once…and super fast once they do. If a beaver works the set and doesn’t fire the snare, it’s still waiting for the next one. Our laws do not require and I’ve seen no need for a loop stop. I’ve caught them by everything possible….including the teeth!

All my beaver snares are drowning set ups either under ice or set up to tangle the beaver below the surface.
For these applications the 1 x19 ,1/16 cable works perfectly. The locks I use are either adams or cam,but most any lock will do under water/ice.
You can use the old style beaver wire under ice without a lock and it works just as well. Some prefer the beaver wire without a lock as it wont close when bumped, only when pulled down.It kinks easily so wont open up after catching a beaver, and can be re used after a catch. It is very hard to find the old beaver wire nowadays.
I DO NOT load under ice snares for that reason.Loaded snares close too easily under water from the currents created by the circling beaver at the bait pole.
Some trappers will actually leave a 1 inch tail on the loop end of the snare to tuck the adams lock under so it wont close until pulled by the beaver. This is especially good for those who like to use the 1/16 7x7 cable.
You will get more extremity catches(foot, tail, teeth nose etc) with 7x7.
