I want to tone down some of my most productive lures for warm weather control work. It hit 90 degrees here this week. Ugh!

I can simply use less. That is what most people seem to suggest. But I think there is value in trying something a little different. Plus I just can’t seem to get confident about a set baited with a match stick end size of lure for attraction.

I thought I’d try to mix in glycerin, lanolin, corn syrup, etc to tone down the smell. Anyone do much of this type work?

I know most people fur trap in the cold months. But down here in Texas, it all about predator control. When there is a killer hitting lambs, I’ll set traps in 110 degree heat.

Maybe a suggestion for Trapperman… make a predator control forum. Not just under ADC.

When animals are dead in those temps they all will start to stink if they arent found and eaten before that happens. Use your lures/baits that have worked for you in the past. Or use some strong lures and mild as needed for the desired effect. Don't use much.

I don't use many strong lures / baits doing predator control work in most cases unless I am trying to create a draw area.

There are alot of lures that are formulated to work in those conditions. Spend some time on the phone with some lure makers.

Centex,
SteelTraps has it figured out. He uses a very minimal amount of lure year-round. Maybe he will chime in here.

I don't trap year around but I do test year around. A really good formulation seems good year around despite how much I use from what I see in my testing. When Temps get hot coyote intrest just goes down despite what I test and how much I use. If you want to try to dilute a formulation I myself would to try to do it with a fresh preserved food base. Food gets more important when they are raising pups.
Just my two cents based off my observations. Good luck.

X2. I do net believe a product will work or not depending on who applies it either

Centec Trapper. Swamp Wolf is right. Just use less lure. I will be down round The Mexican Board by April 1 st. I will be using = JL 1. Winter Wolf and Coyotero and NightTrain lures from James Lucero. I put them in small 1 and 1/2 oz application bottles. That way I can put = 1 drop. Bout the size of a match head on to the qtip stick. Bottles are from = Hobby Lobby. You can order on line. I would post a pic. BUT it takes 20 mins to get a text to go threw. When I get back to lodge. I will try. I say try to post up a pic. Wifi is often spotty here in South Alabama. Might even post up some coyote pics ! 81 degrees here. Still catching a few coyotes. But slow

Centex, I would like to also add, and you probably already know this. From here on out, territorial sets work when food lure or baits have little interest to them ole coyotes. Urine, gland lure and or turds.

That may be the ticket… less food lures and more territorial lures.

You can do both. A coyote in a pen will pee on his food and water bucket both. It wont when your collecting cause you should only be feeding what it cleans up quickly. Keeping it hungry. Keeping one just to keep it, feeding it dog feed, you will see this behavior. You see it in a lot of domestic dogs too. Urine as a marker on bait is a natural thing to them.
