That's a really broad brush.

Fur trappers? ADC Trappers? Part-time trappers?

Misunderstood by the people that have zero stake in it mostly. In reality a bunch of real folks that love being a part of nature that understand the benefits to all involved.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

A way of life for northerners.
Everyone is either a trapper,is related to a trapper or knows a bunch of trappers.
And every inch of land is someones trapline.

I don’t know if it matters. I suppose I’m trying to put into words our values and characteristics

Definitely a lifestyle very few people are familiar with. When I would go to business parties with my wife, people were amazed I trapped, hunted, cut/split firewood etc. One guy actually told me "You know people will cut/split/delivery firewood to your house and if you pay extra, they will stack the firewood" I said really, as wife kicked me under the table.

An enduring endeavour with origins lost in the shadows of time trapping and the fur trade has a history rich in adventure, fortune, conflict and failure. A hardy few carry the tradition forward largely in the continents of Eurasia and North America. Modern science and law closely regulates the trade in wild fur and ensures that it will remain viable long into the future.

Most trappers today are getting old. Very few young people are interested. Quite honestly I dont think many young people are tough enough. Spent their whole lives playing video games. It gets a little cold, wind blows. They are not interested in being outside. I think a big bunch are scared to be off in some wild place. they want to watch shows like alone in their nice warm bedroom eating prepackaged meals from walmart. A dead coon is repulsive. I have had multiple people chastise me for having my young grandkids help me butcher. They are appalled that I teach them to handle firearms. Our culture is made up of very few people. how many other groups do you know of that discuss home made bacon or wild edible plants? Not in an abstract way but really curing meat and harvesting wild food. The modern outdoorsmen spends a few hours a year trying to shoot a deer with large antlers and fish's, a little.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

If everybody threw away their computers they would be much better off physically and mentally.

Trappers by necessity epitomize ultimate woodsmanship. Something that is dwindling away even among seemingly very successful hunters/fisherman. With the changing hunting/fishing culture there are a decreasing number of folks who can actually go out and read sign, understand how ever changing environmental conditions affect game and make adjustments to be successful. Not much sign reading skills involved in sitting in a blind over a food plot or feeder waiting on a deer. Most of this change in culture can be blamed on the lifestyles we have all become accustomed to. Our jobs, families and other interests demand a lot of our time so we don’t spend as much time in the “wild” as we once did. I think trappers are a small group who have recognized the woodsmanship instinct buried deep inside from generations past and are still trying to foster that instinct. For me I have realized that reading sign is my favorite part of trapping/hunting/fishing, not the actual take. The taking of game is simply a confirmation that the way I interpreted the sign and adjustments I made were correct.

On its way out.

There's no incentive for a person to take up trapping. Many of us older guys got into trapping when you could actually earn a little income. Nowadays, trapping fur is like collecting jars of acorns or pretty leaves.
