Found some stuff I been looking for at a decent price about 1 1/2 hrs away. I messaged the guy, gave him my phone number asked for an address and when I could look? He gives me the thumbs up sign. He eventually replied he gets in after 5. Ok what day- he never answers. I said how about Friday night- he said he wont be in til Saturday, gives me the thumbs up sign. Still never gave me an address or what time/day works for him.

I lost interest, he never called, thats how I did business years ago. If he gets back to me Im gonna send him the "thumbs up? sign. Most sellers are like Harpo Marx, they dont say a thing about the item, like if it works, only one picture, no model number? With the price of gas today, tell me a bit about the items before I set out to look.

I've mostly sold on FB Marketplace, my wife sells and buys fairly often. As soon as I list an item I get the obvious scammers, tire-kickers and losers. They are pretty easy to identify and I immediately block them.

There are also a lot of good, honest folk looking to make fair deals.

We never, ever meet anyone at our home and never give out our address. Maybe you asking for his spooked him? We always meet at a neutral, mutually agreed upon site and always go armed. I go to exchanges on my own but I always accompany my wife on her deals.

Eh...wot?

i bought a vice , it seemed a little off , it was the daughter maybe even grand daughter selling it for the old man , he had a phone only so she sent me to his place to pick it up and I message her I was there she says just a moment and then he comes to the door , she was at work handling all the communications for him.

some good but definitely a lot of stuff to filter

my youngest was looking for cars this last summer had to teach her how to read what they weren't saying and that might have left some cars on the table but we did find her a good little car for a fair price , guy was retiring it had been his daughters car in college and he drove it till retirement because cheap commute. met his son in-law who was selling it for him in the Walmart parking lot , I took him with for a test drive ,

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

We have bought and sold on there also. If the guy can't give the info you need he doesn't want to sell it to bad. There are some bad eggs no matter where you sell or even buy. If you ask for info and they don't want to give it, move on.

I could use a 4runner, link the fb add, I bet someone on here would want it.

The problem is sometimes if someone list something and it's cheap they get 100 messages in an hour and just get overwhelmed

Craigslist is just as bad anymore. People want to scam. They claim they will send a payment if I give them my Account number. What a scam.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

I don't do facebook but I do occasionally sell on criagslist.
I must be in better area, I have people come to my place, I have never had any problems.
Maybe cause its usually bigger stuff, a tractor for $12K, a mower for 3K, tractor attachments, a fishing boat.

I can't imagine living in area where you would meet in a neutral area and have to come armed.
Not hauling big stuff around to have people look at it.

Biggest issue is people claiming to be on their way to look at it and never showing up.
Would (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) me off if I wasn't home all the time anyways. I never sit and wait on others unless I know them.

I'm not on Facebook but I use my wife's account for marketplace- I always stalk as much of the FB profile as I can when vetting the seller. You usually have a good idea of what to expect..

Had a good friend get ripped off by a guy that”bought” his motorcycle. It was a FB add, guy came w a friend and brought 2500.00 cash in bank envelope. Mistake made was signing title over at the kitchen table. He even gave the guy his helmet and the buyer drove the bike away. The 25 100.00 bills were fake. The buyer pulled down all social media. State Police have to have to issue FB search warrant for URL address. It may take months….

I have my GLOCK on my belt when meeting anyone, and take license plate pix. Just like to set the tone to preclude a rip-off.

I wouldn't HAVE to go armed but I exercise my 2A right almost everywhere else I go so why would I leave my gun at home when going to meet a total stranger for a cash deal?

I've sold vehicles and vehicle parts on Marketplace. If you can't decide if you want it from the pics I post then you are not that interested.

Eh...wot?

I agree, doesn't sound like he's worth the bother.

Right- it was enough stuff I was interested in I didnt think he would want to haul it to a secondary site. I sell stuff out of my house, Im not scared. I would on occasion meet somewhere if it helped them a bit and I was headed there anyhow, but on my terms (day and time).

And he was keeping you strung along in "Reserve"

Hey. All I have is a check for twice of what you are asking. If I send it to you can you mail me back the difference and I will have someone stop by and pick the 4runner up. Thanks. whistle

I have bought and sold stuff on Facebook marketplace quite a bit and I have found that almost all of the people are just trying to turn an item into cash or find a good deal on something they need, but of course there are scammers. There are also a few people that are just nutty. I have been to the homes of lot of people and I routinely sell right out of my place. Nobody comes in the house or garage, but that's the safety measure I feel is needed.

I have found that if I see a good deal on something I have been looking for, I act immediately. Something that's in demand and priced at a bargain will have people racing to get there. I once told a guy I wanted it and I would leave within 10 minutes and he said okay it will be here when you get here. It was an hour's drive for me and when I arrived, a local guy had just left with it. I was POed of course, but those cases are rare.

I sold a trolling motor last week, it was very nice and hard to find, and I priced it to sell knowing it would be gone within 24 hours. A guy called me and said he wanted it and would come after work. I told him to call before he leaves home and I'll let him know if I still have it. I had two others who said they wanted it and I said first one to tell me they are on their way gets it. One guy called me and said he was leaving the bank with the cash, and his GPS says 55 minutes. He got it. The trolling motor was new in the box and the retail price was $2499, I sold it for $2000. One guy messaged me and offered me $1500, I responded LOL. Then he got belligerent and said, "hey you can buy them new for $1500!" Some people are just plain dumb.

Craigslist has lost about 80% of its effectiveness due to Facebook marketplace. I don't usually even look at Craigslist any more and neither does hardly anyone else. The flaky people certainly taint the water but man if you need something converted to cash in a hurry, Facebook is the way to do it.

It was a fake facebook profile anyway. Crooks will do what it takes.
