At the time the 25.06 caliber was still called a wildcat I was still young .And was not very knowledgeable about all the things that are involved in ballistics ,and powders and such things Well that is still the case today .Anyway the 25.06 was a very popular trendy new round All the gun writers where in love with it However it became a standard caliber and 50 years later it has stood the test of time .That alone tells me it must have lived up to it,s expectations r

The challenging part about consistently placing good shots on an elk is judging distance. The flat shooting 25-06 makes up for that challenge compared to big bore guns.

Flatter than the 270 and 7mm rem mag at 400 to 600 yds?

I have not tried that bullet. Have you had good experience with a specific factory load?

I have 2 myself and it has always been my favorite caliber. I have a Ruger M77 MK2 stainless with medium-heavy barrel and an older Rem 700 bdl with bull barrel. Both are laser accurate.

I bought a Rem 700 BDL in 25-06 the year I graduated from high school. I still have it. It has taken antelope, mule, whitetail, coues deer, caribou, elk and moose. I shoot light bullets out of mine compared to most. I shoot more 75 gr Sierra HPs than anything else. I have shot a fair umber of deer with the 75 gr hp in the ribs and it takes them right off their feet. I usually get a entrance and no exit on coyotes with it if I hit them solid with the 75's. My brother had a #1 25-06 and it shot very poor. He loads and I would bet ran about every bullet and powder there is through it, and it never shot well enough to even be OK. My 700 does not much seem to care what is run through it. I have seen #1s that shot very well.

I never shot any bullets heavier than 100gr out of mine. I shot a fair number of 90gr hps out f it too. I loaded some 60gr, rn but they shot about 3 1/2 inch group at 100 yards. They were not real consistent on expansion. I loaded what was left of 100 after I tried half a dozen loads.

I like the ballistics of the 25-06, never got one; probably because I found a 257 Weatherby at a steal of a deal years ago.

I don’t think you’ll regret it. There probably dozens of us that would take it off your hands if you’re not satisfied. Enjoy it

The way I understand it the #1s mount there forearm stock in a way the buts a good amount of pressure on the barrel and action. This is the reason some group poorly. As I mentioned before the youtube channel " The Real Gunsmith " has a video addressing this issue with them.

You will be happy, I thinks its better for deer size critters than my .243 and with low recoil it's a good gun for younger kids. Ammo is typically easy enough to find, if you don't opt to reload.

I got no idea how this one shoots. Belonged to a friend of my wife's husband. He said it is very accurate.

If the price is right do not think twice about it. Imo the 25-06 is very underrated and very capable. I've shot everything from prairie chickens to moose with mine and never found it lacking.

Danny congratulations on getting a new to you .25-06 what will happen now is you'll be mad at yourself for not getting one sooner !

Berger also makes a nice selection of bullets for the .25 - 06

For me this was the first caliber rifle that I seen in the scope where the bullet hit the deer before the recoil took effect , a .257 Weatherby mag was mentioned that is also a great caliber that's just 300 fps faster if I remember correctly I also nearly bought one also many year's ago , but I'm glad I got the Remington ADL .
