Found this article online talking about how beavers, muskrats, and capybaras became permissable from the Catholic church to be eaten on Fridays during Lent. I thought it was interesting.

Anyone know any Michiganders who had muskrat diners on Fridays during Lent?

Years ago I remember MARSH RABBIT on the menu in a lot of restaurants around Detroit .
I've had muskrat, it turns kind of blue boiled , but is much like squirrel other wise.

Its always interesting how "rules" get complicated or so detailed with "exemptions".

I recently re-read the New Testament (I'm in Revelations now) and there's certainly a lot of discussion that told people they were free of all the Jewish dietary "do's" and "don'ts". I guess the Lenten self denial of some things is that its voluntary obedience that Lent means something in self-reflection before Good Friday and Easter.

Other religions have similar times of self denial such as the Muslims do for Ramadan, although I don't know what Ramadan's "end point" is, the time of year that Muhammad was believed to ascend to heaven or something?

"And God said, Let us make man in our image and let them have dominion and all the creatures that move along the ground".
