It came with two boxes of factory ammo and 50 rounds of reloads. I am a bit nervous about the reloads. Dont know whether to shoot one or not. The info on the card is a bit sketchy. Thinking I ought to pull the bullets, burn the powder, pop the caps and work up a load for myself. Guy I bought it from said his son loaded them. 55 grains seems a bit hot and the card doesn't say whether its H powder or IMR

Looks hot Danny.
I've had one for years but just recently started using it for Deer. Seems to me I was in the upper 40's with powder in mine. I like the 120gr bullet and 100gr . I've shot a deer each of the last 3 years with it, worked ok.
(mostly just shot target with mine).

Danny I seriously doubt you will regret buying that rifle. Like 70s Diver was saying, I have yet to blood track anything I've shot with my .25-06.

As Ridgerunner said that is WAY OVER MAX LOAD. See chart below. I bought one 2 years ago…shot several deer with it. All behind shoulder-ran normal distance for that shot with a good blood trail. Those of you that are dropping deer where they stand- are you shooting them in the shoulder? I wasn’t to confident about shoulder shots with 100-117 grain bullets.

Bullet construction will play a role but we have shot deer out to about 200yds with high shoulder shots with our 243s with 100 grain remington core loks and drop them were they stand and am happy with what they do as far as terminal performance.

I did broom chaser. Going to rain today so I think I will pull those bullets. Cut a bullet in half with my Dremel to maybe see what is. I am hoping for partitions. The factory ammo is 100 grain ballistic tips in federal premium. The scope that was on it was a cheap simmons. Screws were loose and it wasn't mounted with the vertical post square to the rifle. I put a new scope on it. Think I will buy some more brass and some barnes TSX for dialing in.

Bullets are partitions. So I got that sorted out at least. (I wore a dust mask to cut the bullet before anyone asks)

hodgdon on line data says 53 grains for imr4831 and 51.5 for h4831. from everything i read the #1 falling block is extraordinarily strong. but i dont think i will pull the trigger on one.

crowheart, the main reason I bought it is they are friends of my wife. Some health issues causing money issues. The rifle itself appears to be in very good shape. I doubt he shot it at all in the last 20 years. I disassembled and cleaned it with the help of Rugers youtube video. I am not sure about the son who loaded the ammo. He may have shot or hunted with it. 3 bullets missing from the two boxes of factory ammo. The oil in the action had turned to thick gum. So it had been awhile. Son may have switched scopes. It cleaned up nice. bore was clean except for dried oil sludge.

The reloading data included with the reloads included with the rifle is poorly documented. Proper documentation with any reloads should include ; Brand of powder & exact amount (decimal, grains) of the load. Primer ; brand & type, ex large rifle, small rifle, etc. Bullet brand, specific designation, weight (grains)
* It is best to use a single brand of cartridge case for best continuity of the reload (ex, RP, Win, Federal, Starline, etc)
