I'm a fan of the original Cor-Lokts JK, 200 grain RN softpoints. My ammo stash has dwindled to the point where I've stopped shooting my old Marlin until I can replenish it.

Eh...wot?

I just passed my Marlin 336 in .35Rem to my grandson. As for ammo, it has been harder to find for several years, so I was pleased a few months ago, when I was notified (had been on a waitlist) that Hornady was still making it and a shipment had just arrived.

Mine was my dad's. He shot his first buck with it in the 50's and eventually passed it to me. I shot my first buck with it. My daughter shot her first buck with it and my granddaughter carried it last year hoping for her first buck.

it probably wasn't what they were thinking of when they made the law
but a 35 or larger cal single shot with an exposed hammer

something like a 45-70 sharps was probably more likely what they were thinking , but handy rifles and the like offer affordable options to get into the season.

350 legend is more available than many of the older cartridges are currently

not a lot of good options being made in new guns with available ammo for the single shots that fit the 35 or larger

44mag would be a good one that is also more available. and comes in a number of single shots.

If you had a single shot 44 mag rifle, you would have a deer killing machine. I’m not sure who makes them though. I have a 77/44. Wonderful round for deer and black bear.

henry and CVA make a 44
because the pressure is lower they would put 44 on the shotgun frames SB1 h&r and nef frames

I have 2 henry SS 357 and 44 mag 357 is plenty accurate mine have excellent triggers the longer barrels give a lot more velocity then revolvers deer killed with the 357 have been neck shots at 75 yds or closer Havent shot any with the 44 but killed them with my revolver so expect the same without the muzzleblast

Mr. Lugnut, bought mine for 56 muskrat skins and it came with a 2 1/2 power weaver scope on flip flop mounts. Mine shot the 150 factory grain bullets real well, my buddy Bruce has what looks to be the same gun but his shoots the 200 well. When I first tried the new Hornady 200 grain plastic tip bullets it shoot 4 inches high but grouped best of any thing I had shoot previous. Like a 2 inch group at 100 yards or even some better and at 200 (really) yards a 6 inch group with only 5 inches of drop. My 125 yard gun became a 200 yard shooter just by using different factory ammo......jk

Looks like you need three rifles.
Early season single shot, sweet Henry lever gun, and a flat shooting varminter.
Buy all three.

two yrs ago I purchased a ruger American go wild camp and cerakote in 350 legend one for me and one for my nephew gun tack drives but I have never shot it over 150 yds I did shoot a buck opening day in PA at 135 yds needless to say the buck stopped there didn't go maybe two steps and folded
I was impressed with the cartridge I didn't need the gun but it was a engagement gift to my nephew told him when he was a kid when you get engaged and married ill buy you a rifle for each so I kept my promise. When ammo was cheaper we both loaded up on ammo at Walmart im shooting 180 gr he is shooting 150 gr
