My wife and I are going up to Orr, MN this June. Can anyone give me any information on fishing in the area? Is there any good jumbo perch fishing in the area. I was there about 20 years ago and fished Pelican Lake, Elephant Lake and Black Duck Lake. Fishing was great but it's been a long time.

I heard good reports on perch from Black Duck by Orr last winter from a reliable source. That's about all I know.

All the lakes in that area are good. Pelican is well known for good fishing for panfish. Visit the Bear Sanctuary while you're there you will not regret it.

Although the fishing's not as good as it used to be there, Kabetogama is a beautiful lake.

I live 35 miles from Orr and fish all those lakes you mentioned quite often, summer and winter. All still have rather good bluegill and crappie fishing. Best I have done the last couple of years on jumbo perch is on Elephant Lake.

Thanks kabguy. My wife really appreciates the comments by all of you. She doesn't understand why people would give any information but I told her that trappers are very generous people who don't mind helping others.

When in June? We fish Pelican all the time, have friends staying at Birch Forest the 3rd and 4th week of June if i recall correctly. Have never caught alot of big Perch on Pelican but the Walleye has picked up. On Pelican your never really sure whats on the end of your line. Someone mentioned Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary, definitely visit if you can.

Fishing should follow trapping regulations regarding nonresidents. 😁

Enjoy your trip - hope the fish cooperate and the Bear Sanctuary is must see.

Someone mentioned Going up to Kab… fun idea, or even there to Rainey which is a higher caliber lake altogether and with a crossing permit that’s awful beautiful country on the Canadian side.

There's getting to be more and more lakes in MN with a limit of 5 on sunfish. I thought I heard Pelican was one of them.

It's not always about catching fish. That's what people who don't catch fish usually say.

I looked at the regulations and Elephant and Black Duck I think were 10 but not sure about Pelican. I'll make sure and do my research when it gets close.

My mother caught a huge northern out of Moose Lake back when she was a young girl spending her summers on the family spread. That was in the early 1930's.

To get some edible stuff I would walk to what we referred to as Mud Lake and bring back some walleye, perch and crappie. That was in the early to mid1950's.

Who knows, maybe things have changed a bit.
