It may be to late for this trip, but Caesar Creek State Park, just North of Cincinnati, allows fossil hunting. They issue you a free permit to do it, so you know the rules.

The Little Miami River, not far from there has lots of Native American artifacts found on it's bank.

Flint Ridge is where much of the prettier flint used by Native American and traded all over North America comes from. It's about 40 miles from Columbus. Nether's Farm, on Flint Ridge allows you to dig and collect flint for a small price per pound. A lot of knapping events are held there. The flint there comes in many beautiful colors and patterns and is very high grade. Much is gemstone quality.

A hike of about 1-1.5 miles, downhill and along the stream to the falls. A 100’ waterfall you can climb the rocks and get behind, a massive swimming hole at the bottom and a massive section of ledge where you can jump into the swimming hole about a 6’ drop into about 6’ of water.
It is an amazing place. Check it out online for a better description and pictures. Cookville proper about 1/2 hour away has everything you need including ChicFila 😀
