I am thinking about getting a used Nissan Frontier Pro4 P/U and was wondering if any of you out there own one or have owned one and what are your thought's on them. If there any years or models to stay away from or what might be the good points to look for. Any comments welcome.

Funny I was looking at them tonight online. The 12-19s seem highly recommended from what I was reading, I'll be curious to follow this and see what guys who've owned them say.

Not sure what the Pro4 is I’ve got a 2000 Frontier with 328000 miles. It’s been pretty solid so far.

I've had a few Nissans in the past. They were good cars , however Nissan got in bed with Renault around 2000 , reliability has slipped a bunch since then. Not the good car they used to be.

I still think the GTR is cool however. Older Skylines are nice too.

Every fender bolt (10mm) breaks off on Nissans. I hate working on those turds.

A friend had a 2000 frontier and put 450,000 on it before he got rid of it, he liked it. Claimed it was as reliable as a Toyota but unlike a Toyota if something went wrong it was much harder to work on. Another friend bought one of the slightly newer ones with the plastic fenders and hated it, no clearance and he was constantly getting high centered. Not near the aftermarket options for Nissan there are for Toyota. The V6 they had in the early 2000s had issues with manifolds cracking, my friend with 450k had his replaced at least 3 times but few other problems.

I had one in the late 90's and put close to 300,000 miles on it. I'd buy another if I was looking for a small truck.

Had 2 in 90"s also. Were ok....as stated harder to work on than Toyotas at least for me.

Haven't driven one recently. I had an 88 Nissan pickup as my 1st vehicle. Reliable solid. Drove and xterra at work. It was a great little knock off jeep. I would buy Nissan in a heartbeat again. Especially a gtr
My buddy went from a Camry to a sentra last year (for his every day car). He liked it just as much. It was very nice. He then traded that for a Tacoma then sold that and bought a 4 runner.

Wife bought a D21 Hardbody back in 1987.
Was underpowered.
I fixed it.

05-20 were all the same pickup. The transition to the new model included a new engine that rolled out in the old body style then the new body style a year or two later. It all happened during the pandemic so things came out a little wonky. I’ve heard the truck is good.

From 05 to 10 there were issues with the radiator mixing engine coolant with transmission fluid due to bad radiators. Look up “strawberry millkshake of death” for more information. After that fix there was very little to go wrong with the trucks and they stuck with the same design for 10 more years. I have an 11 with only 130K on it. It’s been good. I find the seats way more comfortable than the Tacoma I owned.

I’m sure like many of you the price of used Tacomas has you looking elsewhere. That’s where I was at and don’t think I bought a “lesser” truck by any means. But also saved $5k in the process.

Just replaced the radiator in my 06 Titan for this exact reason. Been a solid truck for me, just topped 200k.
