Looked on line but hard to find info and pricelists tried a search on here but must not be doing it right? What's the secret squirrel handshake to get the info on them.

I have a address but that's about it searched Z&L tannery, Z&L trading post but info is poor.

Z&L does business the old fashion way - snail mail and Alexander Graham Bell. No internet. No email.

I'm sure some one will pop n here very soon with the phone number.

Note - I am in no way knocking Z&L. Just stating a fact.

Leo just did a bunch of fur for me- 5 week turnaround- everything perfect.

i posted them a few weeks ago. They have 0 online presence and do not accept credit cards.

I just got off the phone with Leo. What a great guy. Sending him some beaver pelts.

You can text him also at the above number. Just be sure when you send him fur to put zip ties in the eyeholes (his request) so he can tag the fur before it gets tanned. Leo does excellent work.

Just got some hides back from Leo the other day just about a month turnaround. He does good work and is quick.

I would not send hides to him by way of the postal service, the last time I did that the postal service couldn't deliver them and returned them to me. Resent them with ups and he had them the next day.

Leo must be older than dirt. I dealt with him in the late 1980s, and was surprised he was still in business when it started using him a few years ago. He’s a very nice man to talk to, and I’ve found him honest like businessmen were in my father’s time. I send him a deposit check for about 75% of the job price, he ships my furs UPS with an invoice inside with the balance due. How many businesses today will ship to you without receiving full payment? Rare for sure.

Does he take frozen hides and if so how much does he charge extra to flesh them

I believe he only takes dry put up hides. But I’m not sure either way.

My stuff got delivered last Friday to the tannery.

I was thinking about sending my beaver out there,, til I saw ( leg holes closed) i dried mine on the hoops ,, I didn’t close the the leg holes

Foxkidd44 - you might be confused on what “leg holes closed” means.

If you look at a beaver pelt that is tanned in its round/oval shape, the pelt does not lay perfectly flat. Some tanneries split the leg holes out so the pelt is flat and easier to flesh. The finished pelt is no long round or oval. It is a funky looking shape.

You might be thinking leg holes closed means the leg hole is sewn shut by the trapper, which is the way some trappers do beaver pelts to make them “look better”.

Hope that makes sense. Maybe some one can post pictures to explain this.
