Thank you Elon Musk !

Starlink has been a game changer for me, and cheaper than what I usually pay or my local crappy service. I have been cursing this internet for years trying to run a internet business.

I had a hard time ordering it since I dont have a house address they had to get the longitude and latitude.

My internet here is so bad I once called and asked If I could get dial up back...they said no frown

Anyone else have it ?

Jeff, how's that work up there. I would have guessed you were on satellite, like maybe Hugh's Net. Is that right? Or do you have some kind of village hook-up that comes through your phone line? Just curious how you Alaskans out there in the woods or up and down the Yukon get your internet.

All out internet here now is satellite, No fiber cables here. our local one is GCI really slow especially during bad weather.

I have a Hughs net dish as well but it was slow and limited and in and out all the time and very expensive. I quit using it years ago.

We can’t get internet service out here, not enough folks to pay for what it would take to run it out here. Barely have cell service and Hughs net cost a small fortune.

So…..

We have gone to Starlink and as you stated, “A game changer.”

Huge starlink fan! Elon musk fan!!!

Starlink currently is a private company but you can get some exposure thru google, and a few others

Baron’s fund BFGIX has the highest I’ve found. Not a fan of funds, but make an exception for this one. Just for starlink

If it ever goes public????? Too the moon literally!!!!!!

We are going to get starlink this summer for the lodge. Had explorenet for years and they were terrible to deal with. How hard is it to set up Starlink ? Can you do it with no service ? Like in a remote setting ?

I have had star link for a couple of months now and love the speed, we had one choice for internet here and it was terrible. Setup is super easy all you need is electric. took about a hour using their app on my phone and placing the dish and setting everything up.

Not sure what you mean by no service. It is satellite internet.

By no service i mean taking the box it comes in out into the middle of nowhere and setting it up. Explorenet was a real hassle to set up and you needed a satellite finder to get it up and running, but you also had to have some things downloaded beforehand.

Download the app on your phone

It’s super easy right out of the box

The phone app makes it really easy to aim. You do not need cell service to use the app.

Been considering Starlink because cable is charging me $205/month for cable and internet.

Has anyone gone from cable to Starlink? How does the performance compare?

We love ours. No more buffering while trying to watch tv. Can run as many devices as we want without affecting anything.

From what i understand Yukon that service is available with Starlink, but it does not come with the $110/month subscription you pay for regular service. Regular service the receiver is tied to a certain location/address and it has to stay there.

I heard that the rich folk that have yachts and such out in the ocean with no service use a form of Starlink that they can set up on their yacht no matter where they are. It's for the elite though, I heard it cost over $500/month!

We paid the highest amount for the fastest from Hughesnet for years. It sucked, but all we could use, cause no cell service here either. Could not even use a hotspot. Also had cable TV. Could not stream shows, do zoom meeting/Teams meetings etc. This really stunk in 2020 when everybody was forced to do that.

I got Starlink in January 2021 after a one year wait. Absolutely hands down worth every penny. No more buffering, can do Zoom meetings, and can send texts with pictures. We turn WiFi calling on on the phone now and can send texts call and hear just fine with zero delays.

Not having any cell service or dependable internet was hard on our life. I think if something hadn't changed, we would be forced to have had to move from our property.

-Kre we did that very thing. Now that we have Starlink, we ditched DishNetwork and got FUBO TV; also able to ditch Hughesnet saving us a bunch of money. FUBO has everything we want to watch from local news to sports and has a lot of good entertainment too. We also Stream Netflix every now and then with no issues.

With that said, other than Jesus Christ, one man has not had a more profound impact on my standard of living and ability to do my job than Elon Musk. Love Starlink!

Also Yukon, for the standard version you do have to plug the Starlink modem into a powersource as the dish moves around to find the satellites and also has heating components inside it to keep snow and ice from getting on it and stopping it from working. We had bad icestorm here last month. Ice everywhere, but never lost internet. The dish stayed ice-free.

Had hughsnet, a joke compared to Starlinck. Starlinck is so easy to set up a caveman could do it. We were on a wait list but they said if we wanted to use it with reduced service we could get it sooner. Well their reduced service is 100 times better than hughsnet. We have intermittent outages for like a second every so often but really wouldnt know if not for the app. Should get full service by june. A good consumer friendly service, Thanks Elon.

Its easy to set up just four lag bolts for the dish mount and plug it in and your done.

What you will need to do beforehand, if going remote is download the app and then sign up on their website you will need the Longitude and latitude of your place and they will have their own code for it so you want to call them ahead of time and set that up with them. They need the number on the box it comes in as well.

Then pay your first month ahead of time, and you should be able to get online no problem. Its on when you get it they have a 14 day grace period from the time they ship it so if you get it set up within that time it might be on. Mine was not.

The dish faces North here but seems to be pointed straight up in the sky, So you want no obstructions to the north.

It finds the satellites and follows them itself. Also like mentioned there is a built in heater that melts ice and snow. We just went through a Typhoon type storm that we get all the time and it only blipped out for a minute or two. So far its been better than I could of hoped. Fast too.

We only pay $90 a month but that might be a government subsidy of some sort.

We have the RV StarLink so we can pack it up and take it from cabin to cabin or camp. No need for the app just plug it in and it will find the satellites it's self. Yes it is a game changer for sure.

What is the cost per month for the RV dish and is it as good as the regular version ? We have power available via diesel generators so shouldnt be an issue that way.

I have it. Since 1997 I have had dial up then hughes net then exide. Unlimited download is great even thou my usage is small compared to most I am sure. Interesting thing I noticed when I set it up. I thought I had to keep aiming it so before I would cement the pole it in, I adjusted it for 24 hours.I walked to where it was and was going to tune it in some more when the dish moved on me. Kinda strange but then I realized that it was self adjusting.
I started with paying $100 a month last June, then a few months when by and they changed the price to $110 ,now I get a notice they are raising it to $120.Not thrilled about that.
I was reading that China was concerned it was getting spyed on by the US. They said if it does not stop they will knock the satellites out of the sky. That would not be good.
