I made a small batch of lard today from kidney fat inside of a moose. Its healthy good for you and taste pretty good. Bear is even better. I am sure it would work with deer as well.

Seems that belly fat is about the first thing the wolves go for when they knock one down.

We make that all the time from all sorts of critters. A friend got 60 pounds off a grizzly a couple years ago. Good stuff!

I dont eat baked goods anymore but use it for everything that calls for oil.
I have used it for cakes ,pies, pancakes, anything fried.

My favorite sin now is Eskimo fried bread. I fry it in the oil. I quit useing any seed oils.

Water, flour, salt, baking soda and yeast. The po people use sugar and cinnamon. I dip in pure maple syrup. I must warn you not to try it, you will be addicted worse than crack.

tallow lard basically the same thing

lard is normally considered the lower melting temp fat of pigs

bear share a lot of their names with pigs and have a lower temp fat so I have also heard of it as bear lard

the definition is

tallow : the hard fatty substance produced from rendered animal fat , typically used in candle and soap making

lard : fat from the belly of a pig that is rendered and clarified for use in cooking

since your rendering and clarifying it for use in cooking I guess it would be lard , but because it isn't from a pig

so basically the same thing just most people don't render the higher melting temp fats for use in cooking

venison as an example people would call tallow because it is so high temp melting that it gives a waxy mouth feel.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
