I finally got the boat out this morning went fishing couple hours. When I fish a lot I usually put the bigger walleyes back. But I haven't really done any fishing since last August. So I wanted little fresh fish. The boy and I each caught one 20 inch walleye. Also got couple decent perch. Plenty enough for nice little fish fry. Nice morning on the river. My son with his only keeper and if you could zoom in enough. There is a bald eagle in the big tree over his right shoulder and one in the tree above the dogs head. Their just a dark dot in the Picture and have to know where to look. LoL but they are there. There were several in the trees all along that shore though. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/03/full-1002-170789-14231.jpeg) Our catch of the day 3 walleye 2 Perch. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/03/full-1002-170790-img_20230307_105857024_hdr.jpg) Nice 12 inch perch ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/03/full-1002-170791-img_20230307_113423602.jpg) Going to try get out more now that I can launch the boat myself. Don't have to deal with any ice. Mac

Darn you guys did good!!! Nice to see that much open water. Thanks for posting. Snowy There are guys ice fishing in the bay on the other side of the island tree line. There were also guys on the ice in the bay north of the landing we used. The boat land in the bay to the south is still frozen in and guys ice fishing there. We are in the main channel of the Mississippi below lock and dam 7. Mac

Don't have to deal with any ice. Mac Where's all your snow? We must have close to three feet of snow. Everything's froze over around here. Unless it gets super warm, we're going to have a late spring. We've got another 5-10 inches predicted for the next couple days.

Trapper7 Right here by us we dodged a lot of the snow. Seemed like it came from the west like always. Then seemed to split and most went north or south of us. Then we had rain couple times after the snow. Just weird winter for most part. The ice guys were fishing on in the main channel was gone after one rain. Then it got cold again and couple days later was guys out ice fishing again.. It does that here below the lock and dam.

Nice fish! I remember a day back in Nebraska when we fished out of the boat below Gavin's Point Dam, then pulled the boat on to the ice above the dam on Lewis & Clark Lake to ice fish the evening bite. I imagine, some folks thought we were nuts. Lol

Very nice. I was ice fishing in Trempealeau yesterday. had a nice perch fry for dinner tonight. When I left the lake my spud went through in 2 spots. Guess I'm done there. Oh well, I have sap to cook now!

All the river rescue and recovery I have heard you talk about and Jessy isnt wearing a life jacket? Danny Other than the water being probably 34 degrees and the air temperature just 40. We aren't doing anything that scary. I've had the boat since 1979 and never sunk or swamped it. Used it hunting, trapping, fishing, dove from it. Could have probably gotten written up for over loading it few times picking shell. Even used to run a bigger 25 hp motor on it. Down sized to the 15 hp so I could slide across the ice easier with it by myself. I wear a float coat most time on the ice or in the boat when it's not to warm. The coat and pants Jesse has on is made for ice fishing. But is not the float coat style like mine. There is a life jacket for him in the boat it's required. It's actually just to the left of his feet out of the picture. Is right behind the fish cooler. When others have mentioned like you about me not wearing a life jacket. I usually say I don't want to ligure and die slow in cold water. LoL be like Jack in Titanic just go.. I Always wear one when actually working on river. Mac

I imagine, some folks thought we were nuts. Lol I remember late in the spring when the ice was pretty sketchy. But, the panfishing was really hot. We would pull a 12 foot Jon boat out on the ice in case we fell through. One guy walking on each side. That was when I was young and invincible.

Oh well, I have sap to cook now! I managed to get out this morning early again before had come in for doctor appointment. Was eating my noon lunch when got paged for guy threw the ice at Tremplealeau Round lake. I didn't get in to big a rush because caller said he was just threw the ice. Then said out of the hole crawling towards shore. We like to get everyone moving in that direction if they end up needing divers. But it really up to local fire first responders to get someone on surface. It is a 20-30 minute run for most our people and consider mutual aid call. Anyways guy got crawled to shore in his truck drove off before first cop even got location.. At which point everyone except local closes unit got cancelled off. They were going to try to catch him on road coming out. Ice is getting bad fast now. Get some rain next couple days best to stay off or slide out in skiff. Can be a foot thick and if candled going to fall threw. Here is todays mornings catch smallest 16 inches biggest 18+. I had one fish was over 20 I put back today. Yesterday I was hungry for fish today I didn't feel need to keep it. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/03/full-1002-170883-img_20230308_132906831.jpg) Mac

When I say we pulled the boat on the ice, it was a 17' V-bottom on the trailer behind a 3/4 ton pickup. LOL. The ice was 28" thick. Heck, they had tractor trailers out on the ice for a big snowmobile race.
